Department Overview

The Business Finance teams provide financial planning and reporting services to PG&E. They are the primary contact for all finance and accounting, operational performance, and budget and forecasting inquiries for a specific line of business (LOB) within PG&E. Jobs in the Business Finance Leadership job family provide management guidance and oversight to employees on the assigned Business Finance team.

The Finance Governance & Analytics team serves as the strategic partner across Business Finance, their Line of Business partner teams, and the broader Finance organization to drive analytical and process governance standards and reporting. Our mission is to enable data-informed problem solving and decision making and drive continuous improvement leveraging strategic tools, technology, and best practices. We specialize in reporting, visual management, modeling, and cutting-edge analysis to mitigate risks and optimize process performance, serving our hometowns through financial stewardship and industry best practices.

Position Summary

The successful candidate will join the Finance Governance & Analytics team as a Principal Strategic Analyst reporting to the Senior Manager of Strategic Finance, focusing on Enterprise-wide programs and initiatives. This role will be a key Finance lead for establishing financial analysis and data-driven recommendations for PG&E's employee benefits (Benefits Coworkers Love) and General Negotiations. The Principal Strategic Analyst will also have the opportunity to drive strategic decisions related to Enterprise Value Delivery and spend allocations related to ongoing CPUC decisions.

The role is hybrid working from your remote office and in-person at the Oakland General Office 1-3x weekly or based on business needs.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of thejob posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will bebased on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience,market value, geographic location, and internal equity.Although we estimatethe successful candidate hiredinto this rolewill beplaced between the entry point and the middle of the range, the decisionwill be made on a case-by-casebasis related tothese factors.

This job is also eligible to participate inPG&E's discretionary incentive compensation programs.

A reasonable salary range is:

Bay Area Minimum: $136,000

Bay Area Maximum: $232,000

Job Responsibilities

  • Partner with leaders across the enterprise to drive high performance and execute business goals and priorities.
  • Leverage business knowledge to raise and analyze risks and implementation costs of potential path forward scenarios for Benefits Coworkers Love and General Negotiations
  • Strategically partner with Regulatory and Legal as a Finance Partner for spend allocations related to ongoing CPUC decisions.
  • Process improvements, including root cause analyses.
  • Collect data from a wide variety of enterprise databases, including SAP, CC&B, ECC, Alteryx, Foundry, SQL, Excel, plain or formatted text files, etc.
  • Design database models, efficient table structures, and advanced schemas that carry out data quality and consistency standards.
  • Apply modern modeling approaches, business intelligence patterns, and data management techniques.
  • Rock-solid SQL skills to work with extensive volumes -millions of rows- of data at various aggregation levels.
  • Develop code/scripts to apply data processing logic and business rules.
  • Apply statistical learning toolsets to build predictive models that enrich, expand, and allow a deeper understanding of data analyses and solutions.
  • Well versed with Python/SAS to build descriptive predictive models that enrich, expand, and allow a deeper understanding of data analyses and solutions.
  • Use of interactive data visualization tools, such as Tableau and Power BI, to present results in a compelling manner, for the benefit of internal or client teams.
  • Ability to tell a convincing story to C-level executives using visual charts and dashboards.
  • Present complicated technical findings to a non-technical audience.
  • Prepare polished documents and compelling presentation materials.
  • Work with all levels of leadership (up to and including SVP/EVP) across functions to drive and influence strategic planning and decision making.
  • Conduct trend and sensitivity analyses
  • Coach, mentor, and train others as needed

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelors Degree in Economics or job-related discipline or equivalent experience
  • Job-related experience, 8 years

Desired:

  • Successful track record of working collaboratively with and leading teams.
  • Ability to execute tactically as well as depict the whole idea/analysis strategically for Leadership teams across the enterprise.
  • Comfort interfacing with higher levels of the organization when communicating results and making recommendations.
  • Understands utility accounting fundamentals and the PG&E cost model to consult on program issues.
  • Ability to synthesize research, provide perspective, and develop implications for various stakeholders.
  • Strong experience with MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Passion for understanding stakeholder needs and requirements
  • Working knowledge of SAP R3, SAP BW.
  • MBA, CPA and/or CFA, or Data Science education.
