Job Description The Director of Retail Marketing will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive retail marketing strategies to achieve business objectives and drive sales growth across our network of 60+ retail branch locations which manufacture and distribute metal building materials. This role requires a strategic leader with a deep understanding of local marketing, demand generation, brand strategy, community engagement, social responsibility, and reputation management that drives alignment with brand, division, functional and corporate priorities. Additionally, the role will oversee the in-store brand experience and visual merchandising strategies to enhance customer engagement and maximize sales impact. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of success in leading marketing teams and delivering measurable results. This position has a virtual-first hybrid work arrangement with a preferred location in Houston, TX or Ballinger, TX. It requires up to 50% travel to various markets and branch locations, and possibly more during the onboarding process to understand the current footprint and standard operations. Responsibilities:
- Strategy / Develops and implements retail marketing strategies to achieve business objectives, drive sales growth, ensuring alignment with brand, division, and corporate priorities.
- Local Marketing / Leads a team that develops and implements localized marketing strategies to drive brand awareness, customer acquisition, and sales growth within specific communities to achieve sales uplift incremental to national marketing efforts.
- Demand Generation / Directs the creation and execution of local marketing campaigns across various channels including digital, print, in-store, out of home, broadcast, social, public relations and experiential marketing. Oversees marketing launches, campaigns, and calendars, while driving consistency between national and local demand generation programs to optimize conversions and customer experience.
- Brand Equity / Builds and enhances brand equity nationally and in local markets by activating strategies that create positive brand perception and increase awareness in the market. Enforces consistent messaging and visual identity across all marketing channels and touchpoints.
- Social Responsibility / In partnership with Corporate Marketing, develops and implements social responsibility and benevolent programs that align with company values and address community needs, enhancing brand reputation and impact.
- Social Media / Oversees the development and implementation of comprehensive retail social media and online reputations management (ORM) strategies and tactics to maximize followership, engagement and brand visibility.
- Content Development / Oversees the creation, curation, and distribution of high-quality, engaging content that aligns with brand positioning and sales objectives.
- Influencer & Partnership Marketing / Identifies, creates and maintains strong relationships with industry influencers and key industry stakeholders to build positive association and advocacy.
- Growth & Development / Partners with the Greenfield Development team to support the launch and growth of greenfield locations, including but not limited to market and competitive research, prioritization and selection, and retail design.
- Retail Design / Oversees the development and implementation of store design concepts and layouts that enhance the customer experience, ensuring consistency across all locations in partnership with Product Marketing and Brand Marketing teams. Ensures brand standards are maintained in all aspects of store appearance, including fixtures, lighting, and decor, and conduct regular audits to ensure compliance.
- Visual Merchandising / Directs visual merchandising strategies to attract and engage customers, overseeing product arrangement, displays, and signage to maximize sales and brand impact.
- Store Promotions / Collaborates with cross-functional teams to align store aesthetics with seasonal and promotional activities, manages relationships with external vendors and contractors, and oversees procurement for store upkeep and redesigns.
- Crisis Management / Supports local crisis management efforts, developing and executing plans to protect and enhance brand reputation, including but not limited to extreme weather events.
- Budget / Directs marketing investments for local marketing and community engagement initiatives, ensuring cost-effective use of resources while achieving desired outcomes.
- Research / Conducts market research to understand local consumer behavior, preferences, and trends as well as the competitive landscape, using insights to tailor marketing efforts effectively.
- Reporting / Monitors and reports on the performance of marketing initiatives and uses data and analytics to drive continuous improvement.
- Process / Creates and implements standard retail marketing processes. Researches and evaluates retail marketing management systems and tools to improve efficiencies, streamline visibility across initiatives and better engage target audiences.
- Continuous Improvement / Continuously seeks ways to improve the in-store customer experience by gathering and analyzing customer feedback, and stays updated on industry trends, emerging platforms, and best practices to incorporate innovative approaches that enhance our operations.
- Stakeholder Management / Creates and maintains strong relationships with key stakeholders, including sales leadership, functional peers, customers, partners, and industry influencers. Collaborates with cross-functional teams and location sales leaders to align marketing initiatives and tailor plans to local markets.
- Leadership / Leads and manages the Retail Direct marketing team, providing guidance, mentorship, and support. Fosters a culture of creativity and continuous improvement, encouraging new ideas and approaches.
- Internal Comms / Supports internal communication efforts to keep key functional and sales stakeholders informed of engagement programs, marketing processes and change management activities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, or a related field; MBA preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in retail marketing, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Proven track record of creating and executing successful integrated local marketing strategies.
- Working knowledge of retail design and visual merchandising best practices
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret data to drive decision-making.
- Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to prioritize competing initiatives and lead, inspire and focus a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Creative thinker with a passion for innovation and continuous improvement.
- Experience marketing retail e-commerce including BOPIS a plus
