Primary Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and set up surgical instrumentation and equipment according to department standards and surgeon preference cards.
  • Maintain a sterile field and ensure all surgical instruments and supplies are ready and functioning properly.
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgical team during procedures, providing instruments and supplies promptly.
  • Implement and adhere to aseptic techniques, including practices to prevent retained foreign objects and ensure safe medication labeling and handling.
  • Handle specimens safely and in accordance with established protocols.
  • Participate in ongoing training and education to stay current with best practices and technological advancements.
  • Collaborate effectively with surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Qualifications

We're seeking a highly-skilled, self-motivated professional with:

  • Working knowledge of use, function, and operation of operating room equipment, instrumentation, and furniture
  • Working knowledge of operating room sanitation
  • Working knowledge of aseptic technique
  • Working knowledge of surgical procedures, anatomy, and terminology
  • Ability to communicate with other staff to obtain and provide information
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with peers and other co-workers
  • Ability to accept shift changes to meet the department's needs.
  • Skill in setting priorities, recognizing emergencies and taking appropriate action based on experiences or according to instruction from the nurse in charge.
  • Skill in performing independently and following through on assignment with minimal direction and supervision.
  • Ability in performing repetitive work according to set procedures, sequence, and pace.
  • Ability to respond to emergency calls, in case of a disaster, and to follow instructions.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects, push or pull heavy carts, handle surgical equipment carefully and safely, and stand for long periods.
  • Ability to learn new procedures and improve existing skills by participating in various types of training courses.
  • BLS from AmericanRed Cross or American Heart Association
