Position Summary:
Reporting to the Ying Wu College of Computing's (YWCC)Director of Academic Advisement, the Senior Academic Advisor performs all of the responsibilities of an academic advisor and requires a deep understanding of academic programs,
advising strategies, and the ability to build strong relationships with students and faculty.
The Senior Academic Advisor assists with: (1) Coordinating and liaising the
advising team with the college and departments of YWCC and other functions at
NJIT. (2) Communicating essential information from the advising team to YWCC students and faculty. (3) Coordination of the Caring About Academic Recovery and Engagement program for YWCC students.
Essential Functions:
-Advises students (both on-campus and distance learning students as well as students studying at satellite location(s)) on curriculum requirements and develop completion milestones to ensure timely graduation; track their academic success and develop strategies for achieving these milestones.
-Identifies current and potential needs or problem areas (e.g., study skills, tutoring, and counseling) and refer students to appropriate campus resources; work collaboratively with other academic units and services in the college and throughout the university to facilitate comprehensive student support.
-Coordinates the Caring About Academic Recovery and Engagement (CAARE) program for YWCC students.
-Assists in the mentoring and training of new advising staff.
-Advises both undergraduate and graduate student populations.
-Performs various administrative tasks related to enrollment, including graduation/degree certication, registration approvals, etc.
-Participates in curriculum development and ensure that advising practices align with
academic standards and departmental goals.
Additional Functions:
-May advise student clubs; supervise student events and activities.
-May teach one-credit academic and professional preparation seminar courses to YWCC students.
-Serves on advisory committees and panels when needed.
-Contributes to the improvement of advising services through feedback, reection, and continuous learning.
-Assists with student retention and graduation efforts.
-Participates in recruitment activities at high schools, county/community colleges and at NJIT.
-Some evenings/weekends might be required to better serve our diverse student populations.
Prerequisite Qualifications:
-Master's degree in an area relevant eld.
-4-6 years of progressively responsible academic and administrative experience working with students in higher education.
-Superior communication skills.
-Ability to work autonomously while also working as a dependable, reliable member of an effective collaborative service-oriented team, operating with both an individual and collective sense of responsibility for the success of students.
-Strong command of word processing, spreadsheet software and student-facing IT systems.
-Experience working with high advising case loads for undergraduate students.
-At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
Preferred Qualifications:
-Academic degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics).
-An understanding of Computing curricula and basic familiarity with course content.
-Ability to work effectively with students, staff and faculty of all cultural backgrounds and experience levels.
-Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to establish a strong rapport with students.
-Working knowledge of banner information systems, slate, degreeworks and navigate.
-Teaching experience at the university level.

Salary Information:
In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency Law, the negotiated annual salary range for this position is $61,880.00-$111,102.00 (USD). NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses or other items.
