DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Corrections Utility Plant Operator, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the functionality of SCI Frackville and the generation of medium-pressure steam for heat and hot water needs for the institution. You will be responsible for supervising inmates and maintaining proper security while ensuring work is performed under safe operating procedures for boiler operations. This position also requires a strong understanding of safety protocols and emergency procedures, as well as the ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve in high-stress situations. Your work in this position requires a great deal of responsibility and attention to detail.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work schedule to be determined.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $46,986.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a steam or hot water generating plant, or a steam and electric generating plant; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
