The New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station ( NJAES) is an integral component of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. Through its Cooperative Extension offices in all 21 New Jersey counties, dedicated 4-H agents, Extension specialists, Family & Community Health Sciences educators, and Agriculture and Natural Resources agents work to serve New Jersey residents in every area of the state.

As the health and wellness component of Rutgers Cooperative Extension, the Department of Family & Community Health Sciences ( FCHS) promotes healthy lifestyles and environments for NJ residents and communities with outreach in food, nutrition, and healthy lifestyles. Recognized nationally for its work, FCHS connects Rutgers University and the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station to communities beyond the campus to build healthy families, schools, and communities. Based locally, in each county, FCHS supports efforts to meet the health and wellness challenges facing communities throughout the state through engaged civic learning, volunteerism, service, community-based research, education, and integrated efforts and partnerships.
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a NJ Farm Fisher Industry Wellness - Seasonal for the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station within the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. This position is responsible for required duties involved in SAMHSA's Northeast & Caribbean Rural Opioid Technical Assistance Center serving HHS Region 2 (NJ, NY, PR, USVI). This seasonal worker will work with FCHS and the New Jersey Director for NeC- ROTAC at Rutgers University School of Social Work.

This position will be housed in the Rutgers Cooperative Extension office of Cape May County and supervised by the Department of Family & Community Health Sciences. Recognized nationally for its work, FCHS connects Rutgers University and the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station to communities beyond the campus to build healthy families, schools, and communities.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:

  • Delivers training events regarding substance use and wellness to rural stakeholders in New Jersey. The person in this position will deliver or facilitate 3-5 training events by 9/29/2025, with 100 or more attendees who complete GPRA surveys following the event. These events will include (1) Farm Stress Wellness Forum (September 2025), (2) Wellness Wednesday Webinar (Summer 2025), and 3) one or more to be determined events with community-based organizations addressing wellness for people in the farming and fishing industries.
  • Facilitates collection of Government Performance and Results Act (GPRA) attendee data required by the federal sponsor (SAMHSA).
  • Helps build capacity with community partners for future NeC-ROTAC training events to be delivered by FCHS and/or experts identified by the New Jersey Director of the NeC-ROTAC. All activities will align with those required by SAMHSA of the flow-through entity, Rutgers University School of Social Work (RUSSW).
  • Supplementally manages, summarizes, and collects primary data (key informant interviews).
  • Compiles literature reviews.
  • Creates a network of agencies and stakeholders throughout Southern New Jersey.
  • Prepares reports around farm, fisher and aquaculture stress and mental health.
  • Assists in the collection of data for multiple projects and interact professionally with stakeholders.

Salary Details $23-$35

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, public health, human services or related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Two years of related experience.

Certifications/Licenses
  • Valid driver's license required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must possess exceptional organizational, communication, and project coordination skills and computer literacy.
  • Ability to build relationships, and outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to network and work independently.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree is preferred in social work, public health, public administration, or related discipline.
  • Prior experience in project coordination, evaluation, data collection and analysis, writing reports, and coordination with stakeholders.
  • Experience in mental health, treatment, and prevention of addiction. Experience facilitating or presenting to clinical or academic audiences.
  • Fluency in Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Outlook, Qualtrics and IBM SPSS software.
