Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
Established in 1985 by Frank Hawkins Kenan, the Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise is a nonpartisan business policy think tank affiliated with the
UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School. The nonprofit institute and its affiliated centers convene leaders from the private sector, academic community and government to build a greater understanding of how entrepreneurship, economic development and global commerce can work for the public good. The institute leverages best-in-class research to develop market-based solutions to today's most complex economic challenges. In doing so, the institute aims to support businesses and policies that better the lives of people in North Carolina, across the country and around the world. |
Position Summary |
The Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise seeks a research associate to provide research support on academic and translational research projects in collaborations with the Institute's Executive Director, Chief Economist, and Kenan Institute staff. In particular, this position will work on several institute-led research projects with a focus on economic forecasting, including the development of a set of high frequency proprietary regional economic indicators and county-level economic forecasts. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Must have strong econometric skills as well as proficiency in the use of analytical, statistical and econometric software packages such as
STATA, R, Python,
SPSS, Matlab and
SAS as well as data storage software such as Haver. |
