Summary



Administer design and construction projects, supervise construction, perform on-site quality control inspections and coordinate safety of campus construction projects. Work with Revit tech to produce design and construction documents for various building-related projects, using Autodesk Revit and other computer-based tools. Advise and make recommendations to the Director of Planning and Construction on all aspects of construction, engineering, architecture, construction cost, life safety, and code compliance in pursuit of university objectives.



Responsibilities and Essential Duties



* Maintain familiarity and compliance with all applicable buildings, construction, and safety codes.
* Assist in problem solving field construction issues.
* Record, observe, and report on the construction activity for the University.
* Possession of a valid driver's license and ability to meet Michigan Tech's vehicle use requirements
* Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in university continuous improvement initiatives.
* Administer construction contracts, monitor contractor progress, monitor and authorize contractor progress payments, and coordinate construction safety.
* Administer design contracts, supervise the activities of architects, engineers, testing service contractors and any other special services contractors required to successfully complete University projects.
* Provide on-site project supervision and inspection and coordinate quality control inspections of campus construction projects.
* Monitor project costs, progress payments, and change orders; prepare monthly comparisons of actual costs vs. budget for the University and State.
* Act as liaison with contractors, architects, engineers and regulatory agencies in resolving design and field construction conflicts.
* Estimate costs, budget, and scheduling impacts of project developments, quality issues, errors, omissions, and required or desired filed changes; make recommendations to the Director regarding optimal resolution.
* Represent the University at progress meetings and on-site inspections by architects, engineers, and regulatory agencies.
* Maintain complete and current project files including correspondence, bulletins, shop drawings, requests for information, unresolved issues, contractor staffing and as-built drawings.
* Assist in the review of construction documents prepared by outside services and/or University personnel.
* Assist peer engineers and others within the Facilities organization with the design and management of their projects as required.
* Assist the University community in the preparation of construction programs, cost estimates, budgets, surveys, reports and specifications.
* Manage planning, engineering, architectural design, scheduling, and construction of various projects as assigned in the capacity of project manager.
* Assist the Director of Planning and Construction in conducting the general activities of the unit.
* Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.




Required Education, Certifications, Licensures



* Bachelor's degree in engineering or master's degree in architecture.
* To be licensed PE or Architect in the state of Michigan or to obtain a license within 9 months of hire.



Required Experience



* Inspection and quality control experience.
* Budget and cost estimating experience.
* Project Management Experience



Desirable Education and/or Experience



* Experience using Building Information Management (BIM), computer aided design application software, Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, or AutoCAD Civil 3D.
* Experience interpreting building codes including life safety and ADA.
* Experience dealing with contractors and understanding of construction bidding process.
* Experience in reading and interpreting construction prints.
* Experience working with clients to determine scope of projects.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities



* Experience with Google Suite
* Experience with work order management software.
* Demonstrated current knowledge of federal and state construction regulations and associated codes.
