Job Summary

The Wediko New York Student Outreach Specialist at New Directions Secondary School in The Bronx will focus on supporting students to successfully move towards graduation and career readiness.

The Student Outreach Specialist will work to support student attendance while facilitating career training for students on-site. They will work closely with the school's attendance team to identify students who require outreach services, case management, and follow-up, while working with the school administration to identify students who are eligible for career trainings. The Student Outreach Specialist position is a temporary position (July-August), offering an hourly range of $40-$50 an hour for up to 175 hours over the course of the summer.

Essential Functions



  • Responsible for providing outreach and support including phone calls, written correspondence, and home visits to a rotating caseload of absent students (chronically and severely chronically especially) students. Will review attendance and academic progress and provide students and families with continuous feedback and resources to meet their needs and ensure academic success
  • Facilitates communication between students, families, and school staff
  • Facilitate career readiness trainings/workshops
  • Completes required documentation in a timely manner
  • Report to both attendance team and school administration



Minimum Requirements



  • Bachelor's Degree; social science degrees preferred
  • 1-3 years experience providing direct services in school-based or residential program
  • Strong communication (verbal and written with proficiency in English) and interpersonal skills
  • Bilingual Spanish and English preferred
  • Ability to approach challenges in a supportive and creative manner
  • Commitment to working from a strengths-based perspective
  • Commitment to ongoing learning and development, proven use of supervision to improve practice
  • Excellent organization and prioritization skills
  • Occasional evening and weekend hours required
