Essential Job Duties |
This position is responsible for the oversight and day-to-day management of research laboratory spaces and the dairy pilot plant. Key responsibilities include managing equipment, supplies, software, and documentation, as well as ensuring the proper organization and functionality of all equipment.
The role involves training students in the correct use of laboratory equipment and specific techniques, with a primary focus on the use, troubleshooting, and maintenance of dairy pilot plant equipment such as the Microthermics system,
FTIR, evaporator, and various membrane unit operations. Proficiency in both liquid and gas chromatography is also required.
Additional duties include maintaining records related to training, equipment use, costs, safety documentation, and sanitation. The position performs routine equipment and instrumentation setup, operation, and maintenance, and is responsible for receiving, assembling, testing, and commissioning new machinery and instruments.
The individual must independently assess supply needs, reorder inventory, and ensure security and safety standards are upheld. This position requires strong judgment, the ability to work independently, and effective troubleshooting of technical issues. |

- Proficiency in GC-MS techniques
- Experience collecting, analyzing, and documenting experimental data, with the ability to adapt methods as needed to ensure accuracy, validity, and quality
- Ability to manage laboratory resources, inventory, and facilities, including budgeting and expenditure monitoring to ensure efficient lab operations
- Strong knowledge of scientific principles with the ability to modify research methodologies based on data and literature to refine techniques and enhance quality control
- Capable of serving as a technical resource in specialized procedures, managing multiple projects, and adapting protocols with minimal supervision
