Position Summary Teaches students effectively in assigned classes and maintains office hours for student consultation. Program Specific Responsibilities Dallas College Cedar Valley Campus seeks a dynamic and experienced teacher/performer to join our Commercial Music Department as an Adjunct Instructor for Commercial Voice Lessons. The ideal candidate will inspire and educate a enthusiastic and talented student body through private lessons, fostering their growth in vocal technique, performance, and music industry readiness. At Dallas College, you'll work with a vibrant and supportive student community passionate about music and eager to succeed in the industry. Our Commercial Music Department values creativity, inclusivity, and innovation, offering a collaborative environment for faculty to inspire and grow. Additionally, this position will:
Deliver private commercial voice lessons to students across genres including pop, rock, R&B, soul, blues, jazz, musical theatre, hip-hop, country, and more. Teach vocal pedagogy, vocal function, and performance techniques, tailoring instruction to students of all ages and skill levels, including non-traditional learners and military veterans. Guide students in preparing, creating, editing, or sourcing commercial music charts and lead sheets using tools like iRealPro, UnRealBook, or similar software. Instruct students on finding and converting online backing tracks (e.g., YouTube to MP3/WAV) for performances and explain the value of singing with tracks in the music industry. Create performance charts for students and demonstrate proficiency with music notation software (e.g., Finale, Dorico). Integrate music technology into lessons, assisting students with eCampus for assignments across their commercial music courses. Teach historical and cultural aspects of various music genres to enrich students' understanding. Perform in a departmental recital each semester alongside other Commercial Music faculty.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Excellent oral and written communication skills to interact with students. Demonstrated skills in successfully working with diverse populations through experiences such as formal training and past work experiences. The ability to provide quality customer service.
Physical Requirements May be required to lift and move materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Music Education, Music, Commercial Music or associate's degree in Music Education, Music, Commercial Music and three years of nonteaching, work-related experience. Bilingual or multilingual preferred.

Professional performing experience in multiple commercial music genres (pop, rock, R&B, soul, blues, jazz, musical theatre, hip-hop, country, etc.). Preference for candidates with a local, national, or international performance reputation. Formal training in vocal pedagogy and deep knowledge of vocal function. Proficiency with music technology, including Mac-based software, music notation tools, and online platforms for backing tracks. Strong organizational skills, self-motivation, and familiarity with eCampus or similar learning management systems. Commitment to open-mindedness and fostering a positive and supportive learning environment for our student body. Experience teaching students with varied musical backgrounds, including those with strong aural skills but limited formal music training. Ability to engage with students pursuing careers in recording technology, production, performance, or music business entrepreneurship.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provides students with a written course syllabus. Participates in the evaluation of the instructional process and uses innovative strategies to continually improve learning. Participates in development and support of their discipline by recommending books and materials, revising curricula, and recommending teaching assignments when appropriate. Maintains accurate and complete course records. Performs professional activities and assumes professional responsibilities as agreed upon with the division dean and works with colleagues to achieve shared goals and visions. Values the collaborative process. Uses knowledge of diverse communities and learning styles to incorporate delivery of learning styles in instruction. Participates in student advising and registration. Utilizes technology to facilitate learning and to access data, maintain records, generate reports, and communicate with others. Meets professional assignments in accordance with the System's calendar and contractual obligations. Complies with Dallas College board policies, state and federal policy, and the student code of conduct as appropriate. Commits to college mission and goals through participating in planning division objectives and budget requests. Serves on and attends college committees as assigned. Participates in campus commencement exercise(s) as required and attends other required college meetings and activities. Participates in his/her own performance appraisal. Demonstrates ability to work effectively with persons from diverse backgrounds. May work with student clubs and/or organizations. Demonstrates verbal and written communication skills to support and enhance effective interaction between Dallas College and other organizations, businesses and community groups as well as faculty, staff and students. Promotes the college in the community by participating in a variety of marketing activities. Participates in professional development activities. Completes required Dallas College Professional Development training hours per academic year. Performs other duties as assigned.
