Summary

Sony Corporation of America (SCA) is seeking an Associate Director, Privacy to join the Sony Group Corporation DX group in the London, San Diego, or Los Angeles office. This position will report to DX leadership, with day to day management by the Privacy Officer (Sr. Counsel), Sony Group Corporation Privacy Section and be a part of the team responsible for establishing and maintaining an enterprise vision, cross-group data strategy, and privacy program to secure Sony's information assets, services, and the products that depend on them, thus, building trust with customers and stakeholders, and protecting the privacy of Sony's customers and employees.

Responsibilities:

  • Initiates and conducts efforts aimed at promoting and ensuring compliance with global privacy rules and other privacy program requirements, with a focus on future technologies (including AI), digital transformation initiatives (including projects on cross-group affiliate data sharing and customer marketing), account consolidation/unified ID, and global product privacy and supporting Japan and U.S.-based stakeholders.

  • Supports the management of global privacy projects and initiatives related to protecting the personal data of customers, employees, talent and other third parties.

  • Provides support across the company and conducts privacy impact assessments as a privacy subject matter expert and privacy technical expert.

  • Consults with teams across the company regarding privacy issues and the integration of Sony's privacy management framework and privacy best practices.

  • Maintains knowledge of applicable privacy laws, regulations, and standards, and monitors advancements in information privacy technologies; particularly in relation to consumer-facing accounts, data sharing platforms, AI, connected vehicles, and consumer product privacy.

  • Works in partnership with appropriate teams such as IT and Digital Transformation to enhance governance, controls and documentation, and address findings.

  • Assists in the development and facilitation of privacy training, personnel training, and awareness programs across the enterprise to improve employee awareness, especially in areas of privacy enhancing technologies.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 8-10 years' demonstrable data privacy experience. This could have been in a compliance, legal, information security, information technology or consulting capacity.

  • Practical, hands on privacy experience, and certifications such as CIPP or CIPT strongly preferred.

  • Japanese language skills preferred.

  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate field, such as information technology, law, management.

  • Involvement in global cross-company privacy programs and/or initiatives, including GDPR and CCPA/CPRA.

  • Experience drafting privacy compliance wording and documentation for consumer products or services

  • Experience providing practical advice on privacy enhancing technologies such as privacy impact assessment for consumer products or services.

  • Exceptional communication and advocacy skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to express complex and technical issues as understandable language within Sony, and with clients and other stakeholders.

  • Collaborative, team player.

  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Ability to work and communicate effectively and tactfully with all levels of executives.

  • Ability to manage multiple programs simultaneously, with strong ability to prioritize multiple. tasks and respond to emergencies, organize and schedule work effectively.

  • Ability to travel internationally as required, up to 20%.

  • Eligible to work unrestricted in the UK (and if necessary, the United States.
