Job Details

The postdoctoral researcher will join a collaborative team investigating how brain tissue biomechanics influence electrode behavior during deep brain stimulation (DBS). The position focuses on developing and validating computational models that incorporate magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) and intraoperative force measurements. The researcher will work closely with neurosurgeons, engineers, and imaging scientists to integrate clinical data, perform biomechanical modeling, and support data-driven analysis of surgical outcomes.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and refine patient-specific computational models using Abaqus or similar platforms
  • Incorporate MRE-derived tissue properties and intraoperative measurements into computational models
  • Support clinical data integration, including imaging, surgical force data, and electrode placement
  • Assist in ex vivo phantom testing to validate model predictions
  • Contribute to manuscripts, figures, and presentations
  • Collaborate across institutions with team members from Jefferson, Villanova, and the University of Delaware

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related discipline
  • Proficiency with Abaqus or comparable computational model software
  • Background in mechanics, tissue modeling, or computational biomechanics
  • Experience with Python, MATLAB, or R
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with neuroimaging data (especially MRE or MRI)
  • Familiarity with clinical workflows or surgical modeling
  • Prior experience in interdisciplinary research teams
