Job Details

The Specialty Retail Pharmacist at Jefferson Einstein Center One Pharmacy provides clinical expertise and personalized support to patients managing complex or chronic conditions. In addition, the role supports the infusion center through the clinical review and preparation of chemotherapy and infusion medication orders. This is a full time, day shift position Monday-Friday. There is no on-call weekend staffing requirements.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accurately reviews and verifies electronic, written, and verbal medication orders, ensuring appropriateness of therapy with attention to allergies, dosing, drug interactions, and polypharmacy risks.

  • Communicates directly with prescribers to clarify and resolve any incomplete or potentially harmful medication orders.

  • Conducts comprehensive medication counseling sessions in the ambulatory setting, focusing on appropriate use, handling, storage, administration, side effect management, and adherence strategies.

  • Provides ongoing patient follow-up through telephonic consultations to reinforce adherence, coordinate lab work, and support continuity of care.

  • Collaborates closely with interdisciplinary teams to provide clinical updates and facilitate medication access, including insurance prior authorizations and patient assistance programs.

  • Completes all documentation and reporting requirements in alignment with URAC and ACHC accreditation standards.

  • Contributes to the development and continuous improvement of clinical protocols, treatment guidelines, and medication order sets.

  • Acts as a drug information resource and provides education to pharmacy staff, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.

  • Reviews and verifies outpatient infusion and chemotherapy orders to ensure safe and compliant compounding, minimize drug waste, and manage inventory of hazardous and high-cost medications.

Qualifications (required)

  • Graduate of ACPE accredited college of pharmacy (BS or PharmD)

  • Licensure to practice Pharmacy in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

Qualifications (preferred)

  • Experience working in specialty pharmacy, infusion centers, or outpatient clinics

  • Familiarity with prior authorization processes, insurance appeals, and patient assistance programs

  • Experience with URAC or ACHC accreditation standards and documentation

  • PGY1 residency program completion or equivalent experience in pharmacy
