About the Job

POSITION OVERVIEW
The primary role of the Content Creation Specialist is to execute and support efforts to increase visibility and interest in the University of Minnesota Technological Leadership Institute (TLI). Responsibilities include assisting in planning and execution of all marketing and communications efforts.

The successful candidate will have the ability to build strong relationships and engage with stakeholders such as TLI students, staff, faculty, alumni and advisory board members, and college- and university-level staff. They will also be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously with attention to detail, prioritize and meet deadlines, and work well in a team environment. The incumbent will also have strong writing ability and a good understanding of how to utilize social media channels for marketing purposes.

APPOINTMENT DETAILS
This is a 100%-time, 12-month, Civil Service position; pay rate is dependent on qualifications and experience. TLI staff operate on a hybrid work schedule with 3 days in-office and 2 days remote. In-person presence is required for various events such as TLI graduation ceremony, Capstone Week presentations, alumni and community building events, and staff retreats. The Content Creation Specialist reports to the Digital Marketing & Communications Director.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Content Development & Management (40%)

  • Research and develop content that is compelling and in alignment with TLI stakeholder interests.
  • Write and edit content such as articles, blog posts, interviews, bios, testimonials, and marketing materials for the TLI website, social media, and newsletters, and other various marketing-communications platforms.
  • Ensure digital content is compliant with federal digital accessibility regulations and University policies.
  • Effectively communicate information and ideas in written and verbal format.
  • Create and maintain editorial calendars and syndication schedules for articles, social media and event promotion.

Social Media Marketing (30%)

  • Collaborate with Digital Marketing & Communications Director to build and execute social media strategy through competitive research, platform determination, benchmarking, messaging, and audience identification.
  • Generate, edit, publish and share daily user-generated content such as short-form video, images, text-based content, etc.
  • Modify content for different social media platforms in consideration of audience, platform-specific formats, and engagement styles.
  • Stay informed of social media standards and best practices.
  • Leverage stakeholder relationships to generate earned media.
  • Continuously improve social performance by capturing, analyzing and reporting on the appropriate KPIs/metrics and insights.
  • Create ad hoc monthly and quarterly performance reports.

Alumni & Stakeholder Engagement (30%)

  • Generate interviews, articles, and press releases having an alumni or stakeholder / TLI nexus.
  • Generate annual and adhoc surveys for stakeholders.
  • Maintain alumni database.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree or a combination of related education and work experience to equal at least four years
  • Demonstrated experience writing for a variety of audiences and platforms
  • Demonstrated relationship building experience
  • Excellent organizational skills, multi-tasking, and time management
  • Demonstrated commitment to generating content inclusive to all audiences

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing for and contributing to a Drupal content management system
  • Experience working with Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube
  • Experience with MLA and/or AP style guides
  • Experience with creating and editing videos
  • Experience with generating earned media
  • Demonstrated strong client communication and interaction
  • Demonstrated experience fostering a cooperative work environment
