Job Description

Summary

The Raw Material Engineer is responsible for a) managing the Quality Systems associated with Raw Material procurement, b) leading raw material Cost Reduction initiatives with particular focus on waste stream management, c) optimization of Raw Material Inventory, and d) assisting Procurement activities.

Additional Responsibilities

I. Raw Material Quality System Management

This function is responsible for maintaining and overseeing compliance of all quality system requirements associated with Raw Material procurement.

Major Activities
  • Conduct external audits of raw material processors in accordance with PC 8.
  • Maintain up-to-date vendor responses to the Supplier Quality System Survey.
  • Maintain documentation of all supplier approval programs.
  • Coordinate new supplier approval programs.
  • Initiate requests for supplier corrective actions. Work to develop, and implement acceptable responses. Interface with the CART.
  • Process supplier requests for Raw Material Purchase deviations.
  • Interface with internal and external auditors.
  • Conduct periodic reviews and updates of all Purchasing department specifications, including PC's, CP'S, and SOX Narrative.
  • Complete the annual review of vendor receipts as required by PC5 and PC 8.

II. Raw Material Cost Optimization

This function is responsible for optimizing raw material costs while respecting quality requirements and operational efficiencies.

Major Activities
  • Coordinate activities related to New Hartford's raw material waste stream collection and processing (chip cleaning and EAF/AOD melting of grinding dust/cutting swarf) to optimize total cost. Activities include oversight of internal segregation performance, collaboration with manufacturing to minimize mixed waste, vendor yield management, and EAF/AOD melt addition programs.
  • Optimize revenue from disposal of mixed raw materials.
  • Interface with Charge Make-Up and Metallurgy to identify constraints to consumption of lowest cost raw material sources. Develop introduction strategies.
  • Manage new vendor and new product qualification programs

II. Inventory Management

This function is responsible for assisting the Director of Raw Material Management in balancing inventory levels to achieve divisional objectives for cash flow while supporting manufacturing operating schedules.

Major Activities
  • Translate melt schedules into raw material consumption forecasts.
  • Interface with suppliers and processors to coordinate delivery of products and services.
  • Manage reorder points that balance OWC with acquisition cost.
  • Develop recommendations to optimize QA over checks in order to provide a balance between quality assurance, cost, and inventory levels.
  • Analyze causes of aged inventory. Devise and implement reduction strategies.
  • Institute Lean practices for raw material inventory management.

III. Raw Material Procurement

This function is responsible for assisting the Director of Raw Material Management with virgin and revert procurement activities.

  • Initiate RFQ's, negotiate, place purchase orders, and manage delivery schedules for selected raw materials.

Relocation

Relocation is authorized for this position.

For informational purposes only, the range of pay for this role is $81900 to $122800 US Dollar (USD) Salaried based on a variety of factors. For informational purposes only, this role is eligible to participate in the Company's Quarterly Cash Bonus Plan, paid out at the quarterly bonus factor of 1.5X the Company's bonus multiple, based on the Company's performance in the applicable quarter . Employees will receive 120 hours paid time off every year. Employees will also receive 10 paid holidays. Employees (and their families) are eligible to participate in the company's medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Employees are eligible to enroll in the Company's 401(k) plan.
