The Role: Executive Director of Communication

As the Executive Director of Communication, you will be at the helm of shaping the communication landscape for Providence St. Joseph Health. You will be instrumental in the development, coordination, and administration of comprehensive internal and external communication programs. From public relations and reputation management to executive communication and social media strategies, your leadership will be pivotal in driving the narrative that aligns with our strategic priorities. Based in a faith-based healthcare setting, you'll ensure that our Mission, Vision, Values, and the unique culture of our founding congregations resonate throughout all communication efforts.

What You'll Do:



  • Master Communicator: Collaborate with regional teams to craft innovative communication strategies that elevate employee and caregiver engagement, boost executive communication, and enhance public and media relations.
  • Strategic Innovator: Develop and implement high-quality communication plans and messaging that reflect the standards and excellence of PSJH, independently driving initiatives that resonate across diverse audiences.
  • Brand Ambassador: Reinforce and amplify the organizational voice, cultivating a strong identity as a Catholic health care ministry, integrating our mission and values into every aspect of communication.
  • Cross-Functional Leader: Foster enduring relationships with executives, core leaders, and caregivers, aligning communication efforts across multiple facilities and geographic regions for cohesive messaging and strategic impact.
  • Communication Trailblazer: Manage agency relationships, monitor and enhance delivery of information, and create synergy between marketing and communication leadership at the system and regional levels. Develop budgets and sustainability goals to ensure growth.


What You'll Bring:



  • Educational Background: Bachelor's Degree in Communication, Public Relations, Marketing, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master's Degree in Business Administration or Health Administration is preferred.
  • Leadership Experience: Over a decade of senior management experience in steering successful communication teams and programs, preferably within the healthcare sector. Experience in a faith-based health system is an added advantage.
  • Expertise in Strategy: Proven track record of managing communication programs and fostering business relationships in highly matrixed and geographically dispersed organizations.
  • Communication Mastery: Demonstrated writing and editing excellence, with deep knowledge of integrated healthcare communication practices.
  • Relationship Builder: Ability to forge strong strategic relationships with senior executives and board leadership, ensuring messaging is delivered consistently across multiple channels and locations.
  • Innovative Mindset: Drive proactive and compelling messaging to support brand positioning, with agility and flexibility to manage multiple high-level projects simultaneously.

Therefore, leaders applying for this role will be required to work a hybrid schedule, which consists of three days onsite, two days remote and live within a reasonable commuting distance to the ministry or service area they support and lead.
