The primary responsibility of a Chaplain, Clinical Specialist, is to provide evidence-based, expert spiritual care to patients and their loved ones, including spiritual assessment, interventions, and monitoring of outcomes as a fully integrated member of the interdisciplinary care team and to serve as an expert consultant for staff chaplains, taking an active role in improving spiritual care delivery, adherent to best practices in the field. This role will also develop, assess, and maintain policies and procedures. They are involved in all aspects of care, including but not limited to team meetings, family meetings, and goals of care discussions. Responsible for additional duties in the department, including but not limited to providing systematized educational opportunities for the department (curriculum development and training), department systems, special projects, and programs.
Does this position require Patient Care? Yes Essential Functions - Gathers and evaluates relevant data pertinent to the situation and/or bio-psycho-social-spiritual/religious health of the patient and/or family member. - Develops and implements a plan of care to promote the well-being and continuity of care of the patient and/or family member. - Conducts comprehensive spiritual assessments of patients and families to identify their needs and preferences. - Manages 24-hour pager schedule on a month-by-month basis and supports staff and students in orientation to pager and on-call responsibilities. - Develops professional development curriculum on an annual basis which includes monthly opportunities for staff chaplains to ensure that the Spiritual Care department remains current in the latest evidence, theory, and practice. - Provides education, training, and management of EPIC medical record system for use by chaplains in Spiritual Care department and in collaboration with peer departments across the organization. - Generates regular reports related to Spiritual care Department functioning and manages weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual data reporting, clinical data dashboard, and reporting history illustrating trends. - Supports department director in scheduling, policy maintenance, and responding to changes in clinical work within the organization. - Supports the orientation and didactic learning of students in Clinical Pastoral Education program. - Develops, implements, evaluates, and maintains specific programs intended to enhance the spiritual care of specific patient populations at high risk for spiritual distress. Certification Board Certification by a recognized national body (APC, NACC, NAJC, etc.) within one year of start date.
