Description

The Carpenter II, Maintenance performs the carpentry duties necessary to maintain in good repair building woodwork and equipment such as bins, cribs, counters, benches, partitions, doors. Work involves most of the following: planning and laying out of work from blueprints, drawings, models, or verbal instructions, using a variety of carpenter's hand tools, portable power tools and standard measuring instruments, and making standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work; and selecting materials necessary for the work.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES *1. Must possess knowledge of commercial construction and remodeling trades, practices, procedures, techniques, tools and equipment, materials, specifications, quality control, cost control, and safety. *2. Proficient at the following tasks: stain-grade trim work, hang doors, drill and set door hardware, set windows, layout for stairs and common rafters, read blueprints, utilize appropriate math skills. *3. Able to read blueprints, possess mathematical skills and analytical skills necessary to do material estimates. *4. Removes walls, installs partitions and steps; alters buildings or rooms; or add to existing structures using hand and power tools. *5. Installs and finishes dry wall, wood paneling, siding, and other prefabricated materials. *6. Maintains and repairs hand or power tools and equipment of the carpentry trade by cleaning, oiling, setting, welding, or other processes. *7. Marks, cuts, and shapes materials to prescribed measurements; assemble by fastening with nails, staples, dowels, or glue. Installs wood, ceramic, resilient, or cement floors; installs glass, ceiling tile, windows and doors. *8. Fits, installs, and maintains finished hardware such as locks and kick plates. 9. Performs other duties as assigned.

*Essential Functions SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: The incumbent is supervised by the Operations and Maintenance Supervisor

PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS Effectively use a variety of hand and power tools; review and identify projects needed to be serviced by outside contractors; follow oral and/or written instructions; communicate effectively in both oral and written form; maintain work logs; establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work assignments. The incumbent must be able to stand 80% of the work time and sit 20%, must be able to lift/carry 50 lbs. and push/pull 50 lbs. These requirements are necessary in order to complete contract work, inspect work areas and use and operate contract equipment. He/she must be able to climb, stoop, kneel and reach.

QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and five or more years of experience in Carpentry, installing, troubleshooting and repairing all aspects of various types of general tasks required. Knowledge of GSA containers preferred and the ability to complete various other assigned general maintenance work request. Ability to follow written and oral instructions, diagrams and manufacturer's manuals. Must have valid driver's license and be able to meet government background check requirements.

Qualifications
Experience
Five or more years of experience in Carpentry, installing, troubleshooting and repairing all aspects of various types of general tasks required. (preferred)
