Role Summary

Join Rivian's Seat & Restraints Engineering team as a key contributor, where you'll directly shape innovative and impactful products from concept through volume production. Your expertise will drive the development of high-performing and sustainable solutions, fostering a culture of trust and continuous improvement within Interior Engineering.


Responsibilities

  • Drive the design and development of safety restraint components - airbags, seat belts, steering wheels, and occupant sensors - for Rivian vehicles from concept through production.

  • Collaborate closely with Vehicle Safety, Interior, Body structures, Studio and Perceived Quality to achieve design targets.

  • Execute the design and development of products in Catia V6 utilizing part workbenches, 3D models, and drawings

  • Ensure cross-functional alignment and seamless collaboration with internal teams, suppliers, and key stakeholders to align with broader company goals and drive success in your area of responsibility.

  • Be responsible for the design and development of the engineering bill of materials and perform change management utilizing Enovia as the part management tool.

  • Coordinate with internal teams and suppliers to achieve targets including safety, cost, mass, manufacturing, and timing.

  • Work creatively to provide solutions where a gap to target exists.

  • Support the design and development of DFMEAs with the cross-functional team, driving the communication of dependencies to cross-functional partners.

  • Develop and execute Product Validation plans, coordinate validation activities, and sign off validation results


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • 5-7+ years of full-cycle development and launch of automotive restraint systems.

  • Capable of coordinating with internal cross-functional and supplier teams to ensure the successful development, validation, and launch of automotive restraint systems

  • Demonstrated ability to utilize Catia V5/V6 for 2D sectioning, 3D model creation, and detailed drawing generation.

  • Able to apply first-principles physics and engineering fundamentals to the design, analysis, and optimization of safety restraint systems, including understanding of loads, forces, failure modes, and system function.

  • Detailed understanding of component level design attributes and how it affects system level performance

  • Able to identify and resolve complex manufacturing, financial, timing, and engineering issues, considering their cross-functional impacts.

  • Capable of effectively utilizing DFMEA, DVP&R, GD&T, specifications, and engineering drawings in the development and analysis of restraint systems..

  • Working knowledge of FMVSS, ECE, NCAP and other automotive evaluation and regulatory achievements.

  • Able to clearly articulate complex technical information to diverse audiences, both verbally and in written form

  • Eagerness to learn and collaborate cross-functionally in a dynamic environment

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally to support vehicle launch activities


Pay Disclosure

Salary Range Irvine-Based Applicants: $107,800-$134,800 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, and other factors permitted by law).

Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time and part-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Full Time Employee coverage is effective on the first day of employment. Part-Time employee coverage is effective the first of the month following 90 days of employment.
