DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Training Lead or Change Management Lead, this position serves as a Senior Trainer for the Student Information System (SIS) Project, which is part of the multi-year campus-wide Enterprise Systems Renewal (ESR) Program. This transformative effort aims to streamline core business and administrative processes at UC San Diego, providing comprehensive solutions for course scheduling, enrollment services, academic records, curriculum management, student finances, and financial aid.

Under direction of the Training Lead and Change Management Lead, the Senior Trainer applies adult learning methodology to plan, develop, and deliver training on large-scale system changes impacting tens of thousands of students, faculty, and staff. Key responsibilities include designing interactive learning experiences, creating microlearning modules, developing performance support tools, and implementing measurement strategies to track training effectiveness. This position will collaborate with project stakeholders and subject matter experts to ensure comprehensive perspective integration while maintaining clear communication channels throughout the project lifecycle.

A successful Senior Trainer is a self-motivated professional who demonstrates strong collaboration and interpersonal skills, proactive communication, and intellectual curiosity. This role involves a great deal of autonomy and requires strategic thinking to align training with organizational goals, a high tolerance for ambiguity when facing changes, and the ability to independently make sound decisions. The ideal candidate is comfortable operating independently, synthesizes complex information effectively, anticipates potential issues, and proposes creative solutions to emerging challenges with minimal oversight. They must possess proficiency with course authoring, graphics, and presentation software for developing web-based training, while demonstrating astute judgment to adapt their approach based on stakeholder needs.

The incumbent leverages expertise in instructional design, project management, and organizational change management to develop comprehensive learning ecosystems without extensive supervision. They demonstrate resourcefulness in overcoming obstacles, transparency in progress reporting, and exceptional prioritization skills when managing competing demands. This position navigates complex training requirements across multiple systems and diverse user groups, requiring a reliable, resilient, and forward-thinking team member who consistently delivers high-quality training solutions.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Thorough knowledge of delivering training programs and thorough knowledge of other areas of human resources. Demonstrated skill in professional high-quality adult instructional design, development and delivery. Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning theory and practices.

  • Thorough analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations, demonstrating organization and problem-solving skills.

  • Thorough knowledge of organizational policies and procedures.

  • Strong analytical, verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills and strong presentation skills. Superior writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with demonstrated use of proper English grammar, spelling, punctuation, sentence construction.

  • Thorough knowledge and skills with relevant business software systems; i.e., Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint. Applied knowledge of HTML and web editors to include experience with Articulate, LucidChart, ServiceNow, Cascade CMS, YouTube, Atlassian Confluence, the Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Project, Outlook, Access, Visio), or equivalent software applications. Applied knowledge of analysis of instructional technology needs and system capabilities to meet organizational, departmental, and individual employee requirements, matching appropriate methodology to identified needs.

  • Thorough knowledge of training and development, performance management and workplace learning. Ability to apply knowledge to achieve successful organizational outcomes.

  • Strong skills to conduct needs assessment and development of new training courses to meet organizational needs. Demonstrated skill to develop integrated curriculum, considering content, sequence, methodology and delivery options. Demonstrated skill using course authoring, graphics and presentation software for developing web-based training. Applied knowledge in identifying and assessing training needs.

  • Strong skills in planning, resourcing and monitoring effective delivery of training. Excellent project management skills, including the ability to set project objectives, determine and address potential barriers, identify required resources, identify process steps and milestones and adjust action plans to achieve desired outcomes.

  • Thorough knowledge of applying adult learning theories and education methodologies. Understanding of adult learning styles, and the ability to conceptualize, develop and evaluate effective delivery techniques.

  • Experience working with software/systems to coordinate, track, and design programs/materials, such as: Google Apps, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Figma, Photoshop.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on Background Check results.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $69,500 - $123,500 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $33.29 - $59.15

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
