Summary of Job Duties:The visiting assistant professor will be a 9-month appointment in the Department of Biology for the 2025-2026 academic year. They will teach lower-level Biology classes, core courses (e.g., BIOL 1401), and upper-level biology classes, including electives. The successful candidate is expected to have expertise in areas relevant to human health, such as clinical biology, microbiology, immunology, physiology, or toxicology. The instructor's responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, preparing course plans and material, monitoring student progress, reporting grades, and writing reports. The ideal candidate is expected to demonstrate an ability or willingness to use evidence-based teaching practices that foster an environment of inclusivity for the diverse student body at UA Little Rock. The job may require serving on appropriate department, college, or University committees. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy. Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Experience:

  • Earned Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine or other Medical Doctor degree OR;

  • Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy) in Biology or related field from an accredited institution.

Preferred Education and/or Experience:

  • Prior teaching experience in higher education.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach Biology introductory and core classes;

  • Teach upper-level Biology classes, including elective classes;

  • Teach introductory and upper-level laboratory courses;

  • Willingness to learn about and implement teaching approaches that support the success of all students, not just the ones that will succeed despite their learning environment;

  • Curriculum development and implementation;

  • Provide service to the Biology Department, the Donaghey College of STEM, and the University.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Committed to students' success as indicated by prior teaching experience and/or mentoring and supervisory experience of employees;

  • Knowledge and use of best teaching and safety practices in Biology;

  • Ability to use various computer software programs (Google products, BlackBoard, MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Zoom, Banner, Boss, Workday, etc.);

  • Excellent communication skills;

  • Ability to develop course materials and teach in person, hybrid or online platform as required

  • Commitment to inclusive teaching;

  • Knowledge of simple laboratory Biology equipment;

  • Ability to provide effective mentorship.
