POSITION SUMMARY:

Leads a team of employees and communicates company goals, safety practices, and deadlines. Oversee the daily routine processes of Recovery CEA and quarantine of donor tissue. Ensuring the team continues compliance by executing tasks per SOP guidelines. Will identify any problems, issues, or process improvements needed and assist in developing effective solutions and corrective measures for the Recovery CEA. As needed, oversee the receipt and quarantine of incoming donor tissue, internal database record creation and review of donor records for completion. Identify challenges and troubleshoot creative solutions to keep daily operations on track. Act proactively to ensure smooth team operations and effective collaboration. Ultimately, lead by setting a good example and engage the team to achieve goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Ensure compliance with Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions to culture human tissue in an aseptic processing environment (lab) using surgical instruments and machinery.


  • Perform any one or all of the routine tissue processes (e.g. culturing, visual tissue assessment), as per required specifications, within expected times in order to meet operational schedules
  • Adhere to all policies and practices from the Quality Management System (QMS) based on company standards and regulatory standards for tissue processing
  • Document results of each process performed, supplies used, etc. to maintain integrity and traceability of donor. Review of Processing Records to ensure consistently and accuracy.
  • Interface with appropriate departments to resolve deviations from procedures and utilize problem-solving skills for unexpected occurrences.
  • Provide Recovery CEA support as a liaison between internal CEA operations and external factors that interrupt the work flow.
  • Ensure completeness of donor paperwork. Identify and advise Recovery Management if additional information is needed
  • Assist with the check-in process for received donor tissue and patient/medical records and forms
  • Ensure that the DRAs maintain accurate donor records and tracking logs related to tissue receipt, process, and shipment
  • Ensure that the DRAs proper labeling and identification is maintained on quarantined tissue containers
  • Provide support of inventory related procedures such as monitoring level of Recovery supplies and shipment to field personnel.
  • Perform other clerical duties for team such as filing, photocopying, faxing, etc.
  • Monitor equipment maintenance schedule to ensure routine and repair service is performed as needed
  • Support and contribute new ideas to the continuous tissue processing improvement efforts

  • Effectively identifies problems as they occur and takes appropriate steps to solve them in situations where the problem is not difficult or complex
  • Refers complex, unusual problems to Management



DECISION MAKING/SCOPE OF AUTHORITY:



  • Ensures that work is performed consistently within the boundaries of Company policies and procedures
  • Work involves regular review of output by a senior coworker or supervisor



SPAN OF CONTROL/COMPLEXITY:



  • Heavily involved in day-to-day execution of the quarantine and culturing of donor tissue.
  • Fully functioning support role having greater responsibility to perform all (or most) of the standard work within the function; moderate impact to the department



EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:



  • HS Diploma or GED
  • Prefer Bachelor's or Associate Degree
  • 2-3 years of experience in area of responsibility, or demonstrated expertise/proficiency
  • Prefer prior experience in biotech, pharma, medical or clean manufacturing
  • Prefer knowledge of Good Documentation Practice (GDP), Good Tissue Practice (GTP), Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and AATB regulations



SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:



  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)
  • Solid organization skills to support the efficiency of the Recovery laboratory operations
  • Ability to effectively work and interact with all members of the laboratory, tissue processing, research & development, and tissue recovery functions
  • Must show aptitude to develop appropriate skills needed for the job



WORK ENVIRONMENT:



  • Workday is typically Monday-Thursday, 6AM-4:30PM
  • Process/culture human tissue is typically performed in a controlled laboratory environment. Will have contact/exposure with biohazardous materials, chemicals, and blood and human tissue. Training will be conducted on the handling and safety practices necessary for the use and disposal of hazardous chemicals and potential biohazards. Will also be trained on all applicable equipment needed to perform the job.
  • Check-in process for received donor tissue is performed in office environment with exposure to sensitive information such as patients' medical records, and blood and human tissue samples
  • A small portion of time is also spent in a warehouse, unpacking the tissue shipment boxes. The temperature can vary from warm to cold, depending on the season. A portion of time is also spent in a large, walk-in refrigerator, where the temperature is maintained at 5C



PHYSICAL DEMANDS:



  • Will be required to stand for long periods of time when performing cultures
  • Walking in between office areas, for supplies or help with a task. Walking to opposite ends of the building to perform differing tasks.
  • Repetitive hand/wrist motions and using hands/box cutters to unpack donor shipments and remove tape.
  • Use warehouse ladders for obtaining and stocking supplies.
  • Must be able to stoop to perform routine cleaning and moving from crouching to bending to standing, while unpacking donor tissue shipments and discarding of boxes in the trash compactor.
  • Constant communication with other team members and recovery management.
  • Must have clear vision and constant perception and observation of everything that occurs in the recovery lab areas each day
  • Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 20 pounds.
