Job Title: Senior Level Safety Engineer
Location: Vienna, VA 22180
Duration: 01 Year to Long Term
Shift: Standard Shift (20 Hours/Week)
Role & Responsibilities:
- The SOH Senior level safety engineer will support safety and occupational health program which oversees construction, operations and maintenance, and workplace safety for Redstone or other location.
- Utilize knowledge of a wide range of hazards, controls, safety assessment methods, chemicals, biological and physical agents, behavioral sciences, mathematics, and educational techniques, engineering concepts, and varied operations.
- Apply safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, and newly developed procedures, and techniques for unique or one-of a kind project and advise management on technical matters regarding occupational safety and health issues.
- Manage and perform program audits and assessments and onsite safety inspections of work sites, processes, and facilities for compliance with established safety and occupational health policies, standards, and requirements.
- Perform technical writing, prepares briefs, presents findings to senior leadership, make recommendations to senior managers and other decision makers.
- Develop a broad range of simple to complex safety and occupational health training programs, courses, and materials for senior leaders and employees.
- Assist with the Collateral Duty Safety Officer Program for Redstone or other location.
- Collaborate with applicable authority ensuring annual inspections for facilities, equipment and programs are completed and issues mitigated.
- Provide support for the Collateral Duty Safety Officer Program for Redstone (or other location).
- Plan, schedule, and conducts safety demonstrations, lectures, meetings, and conferences.
- Draft safety and health communications, materials, and briefs for managers.
- Prepare or assist supervisors in preparing materials for safety meetings.
- Ensure preparation of graphs, charts, and other informational materials pertaining to accident trends and other aspects of the safety programs.
- Operates and handles environmental, safety and industrial hygiene monitoring equipment, with responsibility for the accuracy of data developed in connection with industrial hygiene programs and studies.
- Provides industrial hygiene advice to employees and management concerning health hazards, possible approaches to their control and potential hazards resulting from specific work operations, facilities, and equipment.
- Conducts inspection to identify unsafe working conditions, presence of environmental hazards and level of compliance with published safety and occupational health regulations and standards.
- Reviews laboratory analyses and prepares reports that include findings and recommendations for control of identified hazards.
- Reviews and/or determines the nature of the problem and the number and type of environmental samples to be collected.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Preferred Highly recommended but not required: Certified Safety Professional, Safety Management Specialist, Associate Safety Professional, Graduate Safety Practitioner.
- Requires an active Top Secret Clearance.
Education and Experience:
- B.S or M.S. in safety and occupational health field or MEng in safety engineering.
- 10+ years applicable experience.
- Must have experience and be well versed in EM-385 requirements.
