Associates are eligible to apply for a lateral transfer after completion of one (1) year of service in their present position, with the following exception: an Associate who has received a written warning is not eligible for a transfer/promotion prior to six (6) months from date of issuance; an Associate who has been suspended is not eligible for transfer/promotion prior to one (1) year from date of suspension. Part-time Associates who have completed their probationary period can move to full-time vacancies within their department provided such movement will not unreasonably reduce the operational efficiency of that department. Probationary period is three (3) months for full-time employees, and four (4) months for part-time employees who works more than 3/5 of the normal workweek. Probationary period will not apply to shift changes.
Under the direction of the chief radiologist, performs Special Procedure examinations at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. Performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgement, with ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for imaging diagnosis and image guided treatment. Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required.Provides leadership role for staff technologists.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Patient and Room Preparation.
Obtain cut film and digital images: This task includes the proper setting of exposures factors and imaging equipment to obtain high quality images for diagnosis by the radiologist.
Direct involvement during procedure: This task involves a) the assistance at the side of the interventional radiologist handling sterile equipment as needed. b) Constant attention to the progression of the procedure while in the control room, monitoring exposure factors, fluoro time, etc. c) Involved with operating injector when necessary.
Establish and confirms vascular access according to departmental protocol. Assures adequate access is ascertained prior to contrast media injection. Verifies that the catheter is appropriate for the injection, assessing the access to back-flow of blood, saline flush, and/or test injection with a power or manual injector.Review blood work to determine risk factors.
Determine signs and symptoms of and average adverse event and monitor the patient for the development of such signs and symptoms. Immediate notification to supervising physician of any reactions or medical events.
Photographing and processing of images: This task includes photographing and labeling digital images, processing and displaying final images on viewing machines for radiologist interpretation.
Maintain all necessary records of films, fluoro time, injections, etc.
Observe all rules and regulations regarding radiation safety for patients and staff.
Train other associates and students in special procedures.
Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of assigned area.
Perform duties of a 5T and/or 4T technologist and other related tasks as needed.
REQUIREMENTS:
Associate's Degree
Minimum 3 years work experience.
Satisfactory completion of a formal radiologic technology training in and meets the requirements for certification by the ARRT.
Valid license and injection certification in the State of New York.
Knowledge of Special Procedure/Angiographic Systems
Knowledge of Radiographic exposure equipment and film processor.
Knowledge of Epic tracking equipment and other computer data base managers.
