The Transportation Services department of Transportation & Parking at West Virginia University is currently seeking applications for an ADA Van Driver. What you'll do:
- Responsible for using a specially equipped minibus, travel to designated locations by designated time to pick up mobility impaired persons with similar passengers aboard. Assist mobility impaired persons with various adaptive devices (i.e. portable oxygen systems), rider transfer from motorized scooter or wheelchair to a passenger seat, and secure motorized equipment for a safe transport of rider and equipment. Ensure that the mobility impaired person is transported to the designated location by designated time in a safe and secure manner.
- Adhere to the mobility impaired transportation WVU/State/Federal regulations, protocols and procedures such as: select an appropriate parking site to level van and hydraulic lift as much as possible, secure the van safely (parking gear, emergency brakes, etc.); leave the vehicle in order to load the mobility impaired person and operate the lift equipment and controls; carefully place mobility impaired person oil specially equipped hydraulic lift then operates control to raise/lower lift while guiding the person on to or off the vehicle, and position mobility impaired person appropriately and precisely into position on the vehicle. Procedure must be repeated several times a day. Communicate daily with scheduler of on-going operations and serve as a scheduler as needed. Monitor traffic/weather conditions to determine whether the schedule can be maintained. Communicate frequently with scheduler so that riders can be notified of changes, if necessary, cancellations delays, weather related issues. Report problems and routine operations with Supervisor (2-3 times weekly).
- Responsible for maintaining records of trips/persons transported daily/weekly and submitting reports monthly to supervisor of all persons transported and trips provided. Inspect assigned bus and is responsible for safe operating conditions as well as exterior and interior cleaning, and in some cases, interior requires hazardous waste cleaning of (body fluids). Maintain the required fuel and check all fluids daily. Report any issues detected to the Supervisor immediately.
Enforces parking regulations in an assigned area through dissemination of information and issuing citations. Citations are issued utilizing hand-held computers or in written form. Assists Campus Police Officers as requested in the completion of enforcement activities such as towing vehicles with outstanding citations. Identify and provide recommendations to reduce parking problems on campus. Assist in the apprehension and arrest of criminal violators. Perform duties associated Short Term parking machines and lots, as needed. Assist with fee collections at the Mountainlair Parking Garage and short-term parking areas on campus, which involves handling large sums of cash. The position must provide excellent customer service and display empathy with our customers, even under the most trying of emotional conditions. Provides information to visitors, staff, faculty, and students concerning parking roles and regulations and safety and security practices. Must be able to work unsupervised and make decisions on demand.
Complete required maintenance in parking areas, including operating self-propelled pressurized line painting machine, washing down parking structures, sweeps and cleans, makes minor repairs, as needed. Report security violations and safety hazards to supervisor for corrective action. Erect parking and traffic signage according to State/Federal regulations. File complaints and appear in county magistrate court and provide sworn testimony regarding parking enforcement and witnessed criminal activities.
Provide information to visitors, staff, faculty, and students concerning parking rules and regulations, safety and security practices. Provide assistance to motorists and citizens in distress by summoning help for inoperable vehicles, keys locked in vehicles, etc. Direct the parking and flow of pedestrian and vehicle travel during campus events and assists University Police in other traffic related matters. Performs parking/traffic control activities as may be assigned at various overtime details such as commencement and other special events.

Pay Grade: 10 Hours: Variable
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 1-2 years: Experience driving vehicles weighing 10,000 lbs. or greater but less than 26,000 lbs.
- 1-2 years: Cash handling, computer operations, and customer service experience.
- Experience with aiding/assisting disabled persons. - 1-2 years, preferred.
- Operating and knowledge of disability equipment. 1-2 years preferred but not required will train.
- Dealing with public and difficult people. 1-2 years preferred but not required will train.
- Experience in congested and residential areas. 1-2 years preferred but not required.
- Experience in decision making and exercising good judgment. 1-2 years preferred but not required.
- Experience with Bus maintenance (chains, fluids, etc) 1-2 years, preferred but not required will train.
- Experience in planning and executing daily routes. 1-2 years, preferred.
- Experience in record keeping for daily log/monthly reports 1-2 years, preferred.
- Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered
- All qualifications must be met by the time of employment
Requirements
- Must obtain a Class D Chauffeur's License valid in West Virginia within 30 days of hire
- Must obtain the following within 6 months of hire:
- Emergency first-aid and CPR certification
- Certification in wheelchair passenger assistance equipment
- HIPPA certification
- DOT Background check required
