Clearance Requirement: Eligibility for NASA Public Trust
We are seeking a highly skilled Database Administrator (DBA) to oversee the configuration, performance, and integrity of mission-critical database systems supporting NASA's Research and Education Support Services (NRESS) contract. This role involves managing systems such as NSPIRES and associated platforms that support research proposal submission, peer review, and stakeholder communications. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in DBMS design, data operations, and supporting application development in a high-availability environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead daily operations, configuration, and administration of relational database systems and business applications including NSPIRES, email, and listserv services.
- Design and maintain optimized database structures, tables, triggers, procedures, and queries to ensure system efficiency and data integrity.
- Collaborate with developers and technical teams to support data-driven application design, performance tuning, and workload balancing.
- Conduct load analysis and capacity planning to optimize system performance and scalability.
- Implement and monitor database backup, recovery, and failover strategies to ensure data resilience and disaster preparedness.
- Diagnose and resolve operational database issues and ensure consistent system uptime and availability.
- Prepare and deliver presentations or documentation related to database architecture, tools, and best practices for stakeholders and end users.
- Assist users and project staff in accessing and using system data, reports, and dashboards.
- Establish and enforce database security and access protocols in compliance with NASA and federal standards.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of general IT experience, including at least 5 years of direct experience with:
- Database management systems (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL)
- Systems design and analysis
- Operating system administration and tuning
- Data manipulation/query languages (e.g., SQL, PL/SQL, T-SQL)
- Strong understanding of relational database concepts, normalization, indexing, and performance optimization.
- Experience supporting application teams and end users in a federal or enterprise IT environment.
- U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain a NASA Public Trust clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with cloud-hosted or hybrid DBMS environments (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL).
- Familiarity with NSPIRES or similar federal research management platforms.
- Experience with system integration, migration projects, or modernization of legacy databases.
- Knowledge of federal data security standards and NIST guidelines.
- Certifications in database administration (e.g., Oracle Certified Professional, Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator).
