Location: Salem Hospital, 890 Oak Street SE, Salem, Oregon 97301

Department: Nursing Operations

Position Type: Full Time, 40 hours/week, Exempt

Schedule: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday - Friday, 24/7 accountability, some nights/weekends

Your role with us

We are seeking a dynamic, experienced Nurse Manager of Operations to lead and develop a highly skilled, multidisciplinary team that supports patient flow, staffing, vascular access, dialysis services, and more across Salem Health's system, including West Valley Hospital. This is a systems-level leadership role, providing a unique opportunity to lead leaders and influence processes across multiple departments and facilities.

As Nurse Manager of Operations you will have the opportunity to build from the ground-up, developing new processes, rebuilding team dynamics, and working collaboratively to improve operational functions. This position provides ample space to make a high impact across the organization, as you play a pivotal role in nursing performance, patient outcomes, and ensuring operational excellence across multiple sites. You will have autonomy and influence, working across a broad system rather than managing a single unit, while maintaining visibility into strategic decision making.

If you are a highly organized and proactive visionary change leader who finds joy in developing others, if you thrive on building structure and fostering cross-functional collaboration-this is your opportunity to make a significant impact.

What you'll do

  • Systemwide Leadership: Provide operational oversight to a team that includes House Supervisors, Patient Placement, Float Pool, Vascular Access, Dialysis, Staffing Office, and Contract Labor.

  • Strategic Planning & Improvement: Partner with senior leadership to drive system-wide throughput and operational efficiency through strategic planning, policy creation, and continuous improvement.

  • Patient Flow & Resource Management: Oversee hospital-wide patient placement and bed management, ensuring optimal flow through collaboration with Care Management, Environmental Services, and other departments.

  • Team Development & Engagement: Mentor and coach experienced staff; foster accountability, engagement, and a learning culture to support cross-training and team development.

  • Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Communicate effectively across departments to ensure alignment and coordination of initiatives that impact hospital-wide operations.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing. Will consider non-nursing bachelor's degree with master's degree in nursing (MSN).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Registered Nurse: Current unencumbered Oregon RN license or eligible for licensure to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Oregon.
  • Three years of critical care nursing experience.
  • Two years of progressive leadership experience.

Additional Information

  • American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL) Nurse Manager & Leader Certification or American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Nurse Executive Certification will be required within two years of hire and must be kept valid throughout employment.
