The Maintenance Repairman 2nd class is responsible for installing, repairing, and providing preventative maintenance on all mechanical equipment in the plant. The Maintenance Repairman 2nd class works with all hand and power tools in the plant. Changes pumps, motors and other equipment. Operates mobile equipment such as Broderson Crane, forklift, truck, etc. Works on and underneath tank cars. Works indoors and outdoors in varied weather conditions. Wears Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including, but not limited to: Hard Hat; Safety Glasses; Ear Plugs; Long Pants; Long Sleeved Shirt; Gloves; Harness; and Metatarsal 6" lace-up footwear (ASTM F2413-05: I75/C75/Mt75). Respiratory protection includes the following based on job duties: Negative Pressure Air Purifying Respirator - Half Mask Face-piece (HMAPR) Negative Pressure Air Purifying Respirator - Full Mask Face-piece (FFAPR) Positive Pressure Supplied Air Respirator (airline) - Full Mask Face-piece (SAR) Positive Pressure Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus - Full Mask Face-piece (SCBA) SPECIFIC DUTIES * Installs, repairs, maintains pumps, motors, blowers, conveyer systems, etc. * Reads, interprets and implements instructions from maps and drawings * Welding/pipe repair/gasket repair * Utilizes hoists * Fabricates steel, metal, piping, etc. * Installs flanges * Operates Broderson crane, electric pallet jack, forklift, truck, box truck, boom truck, dollies * Removes nuclear sources * Utilizes come-a-longs * Lifts/lowers/carries pipe * Utilizes vices and grinders * Removes plugs and caps underneath tank car * Ascends/descends platforms/ladders/steps/stairs/rail cars/scaffolding/towers * Repairs steam leaks * Lifts/lowers/carries propane tank * Rides bicycle around plant * Communicates via radio * Wears harness and respirator * Conducts preventative maintenance checks. * Performs repairs, installations and preventative maintenance duties during plant shutdowns * Utilizes hand tools, including but not limited to: hammer, wrench, pliers, sledgehammer, screwdrivers, pipe wrench, etc. Perform all related duties as assigned including housekeeping and complying with safety regulations. * Check condition of tank shell for leakage, test tank car coils with steam, and check inside and outside valves and all other necessary equipment to comply with FRA Regulations. * Trains on areas needed for advancement * This description is not all encompassing but rather a general guideline of duties * This employee may or will manage hazardous waste.
