Posting Summary
Reporting directly to the Dean, the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs serves as an RSON leader in guiding the development, maintenance and evaluation of formalized academic practice partnerships with clinical and community partners and promoting the clinical education of students at the RSON, faculty practice and research opportunities, secondary appointments, and innovative programs to support students, faculty, and clinical partners. As appropriate, this individual will represent the SON on Rutgers Health and local, state, regional, and national committees related to clinical initiatives, interprofessional education and practice, and Academic-Practice alignment. The Associate Dean is a member of Deans School Advisory Committee which advises the dean on matters related to the business and operations of the school.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Clinical-Practice Partnership Model consistent with the AONE- AACN Guidelines

  • Assumes overall responsibility for positioning the School of Nursing as a partner in clinical practice within the Rutgers Health enterprise and beyond with the aim of increasing collaboration between education, practice, research, and scholarship.
  • Engages in high level stakeholder discussions to design, implement, and evaluate a true collaborative Academic-Practice Partnership with key clinical partners that is consistent with the AONE-AACN Guiding Principles regarding Practice, Education, Research, and Scholarship, joint hires, and faculty appointments, and faculty practice opportunities.
  • Positions Practice Partners in opportunities for secondary appointments to facilitate participation in teaching, curricular design, implementation and evaluation, and research.
  • Collaborates with key clinical partners to identify integrated faculty practice opportunities.
  • Collaborates with the School of Nursing and Clinical Academic Partners on the development and review of transition to practice programs or other innovative programs designed to meet the workforce learning needs.
  • Serves as the internal representative to executive management in the School of Nursing as it relates to clinical responsibilities and affairs.


Clinical Education Leadership

  • Identifies and develops relationships with clinical partners to optimize clinical, educational, and research opportunities for students, staff, and faculty.
  • Works with the Academic Deans and Specialty/Program Directors to identify the placement needs of clinical programs and secure appropriate clinical sites and preceptors to accommodate educational experiences.
  • Works with the Academic Deans and Specialty/Program Directors to prepare preceptors for their role in guiding students.
  • Expands the number and diversity of quality practice sites.
  • Develops standardized processes for clinical placement requests.
  • Works with the Clinical Clearance Department to facilitate new MOUs and student placement processes.
  • Works with Academic Deans, Faculty, and Academic-Practice Partners to ensure that RSON academic programs are preparing clinicians who meet the needs of partners and community stakeholders.

  • Contributes to academic planning and curricular revision with input from practice and community partners.

    • Participates in program evaluation specific to clinical sites, clinical preceptors, and employer satisfaction with students and graduates.
    • Reviews evaluation data on clinical sites, preceptors, and student practice experiences in conjunction with Specialty Directors, Academic Deans, and Academic-Practice Partners and solicits and develops recommendations for improvement.


Preceptor and Community Engagement

  • Develops and leads orientation program for new and existing preceptors in conjunction with Academic Dean(s) and faculty.
  • Updates preceptor Handbook annually.
  • Develop an annual program of appreciation for practice partners.
  • Serves as RSON representative in the planning of Rutgers Health clinical partner events for interprofessional preceptors.
  • Supervises the faculty preceptors including, but not limited to, providing input into their evaluations and addressing performance concerns include discipline and termination if required.
  • Participates and/or directs community advisory boards to provide input on curriculum/clinical practice competencies for students.

Interprofessional Education

  • Facilitates interprofessional education opportunities for students in conjunction with the Associate Dean for Simulation and Clinical Learning.
  • Collaborates with faculty partners from around Rutgers Health to achieve the goal of equity in clinical placement opportunities for all students.

DNP Core Courses and Projects
  • Oversees DNP project operations, including the identification of new DNP project sites and clinical mentors and tracking of DNP project progression and completion.
Grant Support

  • Participates on team to prepare clinically-focused curricular grants.
  • Serve as the community engagement liaison on clinically-focused curricular grants.

Representing the School of Nursing
Represents the SON on Rutgers Health and other University, partnership, and professional committees as recommended by the Dean to advance clinical education, academic-practice partnerships, clinical policies, and interprofessional education and practice.
Faculty Practice

  • Facilitates integrated faculty practice opportunities for School of Nursing faculty as requested.
  • Establishes ongoing connections within the clinical care delivery system to identify opportunities for faculty practice specific to the clinical expertise of the faculty
  • Collaborates with practice partners to identify available opportunities for joint practice positions that could strengthen both academia and clinical practice.
  • Supervises the work of the faculty engaged in the clinical practice including, but not limited to, providing input into their evaluations and addressing performance concerns include discipline and termination if required.


Administrative Responsibilities

  • Oversees EXXAT LMS implementation and evaluation
  • Performs educational verifications for graduating students and alumni
  • Reviews FT and adjunct/PTL/Per Diem Faculty course evaluations (e.g., SIR IIs) and makes recommendations to the Associate Deans in the four divisions to provide meaningful performance feedback and institute performance improvement strategies as needed.
  • Participates in individual and aggregate data review related to clinical education and competency achievement
  • Prepares and submits annual and other reports as requested.
  • Assumes other responsibilities as requested.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience

  • PhD, DNP (or equivalent) in Nursing
  • History of scholarship, program/research funding
  • Progressive leadership and administrative experience, including fiscal administration, grants management, program planning and evaluation, knowledge of regulatory and insurance requirements for clinical practice
  • Superior interpersonal skills and robust ability to address a highly regulated and competitive healthcare market
  • Passion for working across professions to create equitable learning environments and opportunities for all


Certifications/Licenses

  • Current Licensure or eligibility for RN and APN Licensure in New Jersey
  • Certification as APRN or equivalent (preferred) or extensive experience in practice management
