Position Description ERT is seeking a Geostationary Observational Environmental Satellite R Series (GOES-R) Maintenance Operations Lead with experience in management of all aspects of a high-performing NOAA/NESDIS satellite ground system support team. The Operations Lead is expected to operate as a high-level systems engineer overseeing and managing the day-to-day operations of the GOES-R ground system maintenance team, identifying and executing efficiencies and process improvements, and working hand-in-hand with the GOES-R PM. Duties will include:
- Technical oversight of GOES-R ERT operations
- Engagement with and technical leadership of the GOES-R maintenance functional leads
- Oversight of Integration, Test, and Checkout (ITCO) activities and the ITCO team
- Leadership of ERT anomaly efforts, which may include night or weekend support in emergency anomaly situations
- Support of GOES-R PM with contractual deliverables, process improvement, and strategy
- Support of the NOAA customers via effective communication, problem solving, and identification of efficiencies
Required Skills 10+ years of related experience.
- Technical oversight experience for a satellite ground system operation and maintenance team within a 24x7 operational system environment.
- Experience leading operations and driving technical activities for approximately 50 full time staff, which includes ERT and subcontractors.
- Strong IT and/or ground system knowledge and background with a demonstrated history of work in an environment comparable to the GOES-R ground system
- Demonstrated history of successful management, having met strict timelines, maintained customer relationships, performed within budget, and maintained set schedules.
- Ability to understand and make independent decisions related to maintenance, monitoring, helpdesk, reporting, responding to anomalies, technology transitions to operations, security controls assessments, security scans, security vulnerability management, break/fix management, and other system technology improvements as necessary while maintaining appropriate communication with the GOES-R PM and government customers.
- Effective communicator capable of maintaining appropriate communication with the GOES-R PM, ERT leadership, NOAA government customers, and others.
- Good motivator and problem solver, who works well with the GOES-R staff to achieve a high level of performance.
- Demonstrated history of understanding customer needs and generating solutions.
- Familiarity with NIST Security policies, processes and protocols; experience with SCADA Systems; experience with deployment to operations in a continuous availability environment.
- Experience with NOAA satellite ground systems is desirable.
- Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident and be able to pass a background investigation to obtain a security badge to enter the applicable government facility.
Education Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Business Administration, or equivalent. Program Management Professional certification desirable, not required. Work Location Work will be performed on-site in Suitland, MD with some telework permitted. Salary The salary range for this role is $83,000 - $240,000/year. This range is a good faith estimate based on similar roles across the organization.
