Position Overview

This position reports to the Chief Compliance Officer and is part of the Office of Compliance and Integrity. The Risk and Emergency Management Coordinator is responsible for emergency management campus wide and is responsible for leading the university's processes for identifying, analyzing, managing, monitoring, reporting, and responding to key risk and emergency management issues and situations. The coordinator is responsible for providing a systematic and disciplined approach to promoting both risk and emergency management best practices across all levels of the university. The coordinator will develop and implement policies, procedures and training programs in safety, insurance and loss prevention, and other areas, as needed, to mitigate exposure and efficiently protect the university's assets and integrity. The coordinator will also oversee the administration of the university's comprehensive insurance protections including property and casualty policies, and coordinate claims activity with stakeholders and insurance providers. This position will also be responsible for ongoing development and implementation of the university's Emergency Operations Plan. This role will coordinate disaster response and crisis management activities, provide disaster preparedness training and mock exercises, ensure compliance with all applicable rules and regulations, and monitor developments and trends related to emergency planning and response.

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor's degree in a relevant field and two years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • Knowledge of professional standards and best practices related to industry or area of expertise.
  • Ability to conduct reviews and analyze information to compose clear, concise, timely, and professionally written reports.
  • Ability to maintain discretion with confidential information.


Preferred Qualifications

Certified Risk Management Professional, Professional Risk Manager, Certified Emergency Manager, or Associate Emergency Manager or applicable certification is a plus.

Required License/Registration/Certifications

A bachelor's degree in a relevant field and two years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Job Duties:



  • Oversee the development, implementation, and fostering of a collaborative, campus-wide approach to risk management.
  • Identify and analyze the university's risk exposure to build a risk-aware culture.
  • Manage the workers' compensation and incident-reporting program.
  • Develop policies, and procedures for delivery and communication of insurance and risk management services.
  • Develop, enhance, and implement the university's Emergency Operations Plan.
  • Develop and perform tests drills, exercises, and evaluations of emergency management plans.
  • Keep informed of activities or changes that could affect emergency likelihood and response efforts.
  • Maintain and update all resource materials associated with emergency preparedness plans. Perform applicable inspections as required.
  • Prepares reports and may present findings to a variety of constituents or audiences.
  • Assists in the design and implementation of communications pertaining to area of specialty.
  • Collects, analyzes, and interprets information and data to prepare recommendations. Draws conclusions and makes recommendations for changes or resolutions.
  • Stays abreast of current activities and trends.
