The Alaka`ina Foundation Family of Companies (FOCs) is looking for an Chemical Hygiene Specialist to provide research support administration services for our government customer in San Antonio, TX.

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure employee safety by designing, modifying, and maintaining the chemical hygiene program in coordination with the Safety Officer.
  • Organize, plan, implement, and audit environmental programs and policies to ensure compliance.
  • Work with the Safety Officer in assuring compliance with federal, state, local , and internal regulations.
  • Ensure waste and remediation activities, including waste management plans, shipments, manifests, and regulatory reporting are compliant.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance for spill response and training, including required reporting.
  • Act as the point of contact for hazardous/medical waste operations for reports, inspections, and regulatory requirements.
  • Work with the Safety Officer during hazardous and medical waste compliance audits and resolve action items from findings.
  • Communicate updates on hazardous waste or medical waste policy changes and training requirements.
  • Maintain an effective filing system for operational data to ensure legal and regulatory compliance.
  • Review internal SOPs and risk assessments to ensure safe handling and disposal of hazardous/non-hazardous materials.
  • Maintain Chemical Inventory and Authorized User List (AUL) for hazardous/non-hazardous chemicals and send an Annual Chemical Inventory to relevant parties.
  • Perform weekly inspections of eyewash stations, ensuring proper PPE is available for use.
  • Manage new and annual refresher SAP site training.
  • Update and route all SAP appointment letters for Government approval.
  • Manage and track SAP waste characterization and schedule waste drop-offs.
  • Work with Safety Officer in conducting annual EMS audits and generating reports for leadership oversight.
  • Update NFPA Door signage as required.

REQUIRED DEGREE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

Minimum of bachelor's degree with at least two (2) years of experience is preferred or an associate's degree with at least five (5) years of experience in related field.

REQUIRED CITIZENSHIP AND CLEARANCE:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must be able to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC)
