I. JOB OVERVIEW


Job Description Summary:
In the heart of the nation's capital, with additional programs in Virginia, the George Washington University (GW) was created by an Act of Congress in 1821. The Student Accounts Office is responsible for the billing functions, collection operations, and customer support functions for our student population. The Sr. Student Account Associate, Student Billing will report to the Assistant Director, Student Accounts, and the duties will be as follows:

  • Responsible for the monthly invoicing of the student account charges and balances, and the accuracy of the charges on the students' accounts. Knowledge of Title IV regulations is used as it relates to the payment of institutional charges.


  • Assists the Assistant Director, Student Accounts, in maintaining the billing rate tables and billing rules by testing scenarios within the environment and inspecting/ validating the expected results.
  • Reviews and validates the overnight processes that post transactions to the students' accounts and identifies errors in the process for the Assistant Director, Student Accounts. Proactively audits student accounts for errors to ensure the populations has been reviewed and corrected.
  • Manages tuition charges due to registration changes, particularly after the start of the semester.
  • Manages returned payment processing.
  • Supports tax form preparation and customer support
  • Collaborates with other operating units to ensure compliance with university policies, identify potential process improvements, and promote an environment of constant awareness and improvement.
  • Provides Tier 2 level customer support to customer and user inquiries escalated from the call center.
Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated Analytical experience working in a complex billing environment is preferred.
  • Experience in accounting or bookkeeping, specifically in the accounts receivable area, is a plus.
  • Customer Services experience with external and internal customers is valued.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Federal Title IV regulations as they relate to student aid and refunds is strongly desired.
  • Experience working with a large Enterprise Resource Planning system is preferred.

Hiring Range $23.35 - $30.39
