Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The mission of the School of Nursing is to enhance and improve the health and well-being of the people of North Carolina and the nation, and, as relevant and appropriate, the people of other nations, through its programs of education, research, and scholarship, and through clinical practice and community service. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing has been the leader in nursing education in North Carolina throughout its history. Established in 1950, it was the first school of nursing in North Carolina to offer a four-year baccalaureate nursing degree program followed by the first master's degree program, the first continuing education program for nurses, first doctoral program, and first accelerated BSN option to students with college degrees. Today, the School is renowned for its academic programs, its research and its commitment to clinical and community service within state, national and global communities.
Position Summary
The School of Nursing seeks an assistant director for our simulation and lab skills acquisition environment. EISLE (Education Innovation Simulation Learning Environment), the School's skill acquisition and simulation lab, allows students to translate theoretical knowledge into safe clinical experiences using realistic patient scenarios. EISLE supports undergraduate and graduate nursing students with hands-on skills training and simulated clinical experiences. It enhances their confidence and provides real-time human and technological feedback about developing their psychomotor, assessment, clinical judgment, communication, and diagnostic skills.

Reporting to the current Director of EISLE (future Assistant Dean for Simulation and Experiential Learning), the Assistant Director is responsible for providing operational oversight for the skills lab at EISLE on a day-to-day basis. The Assistant Director ensures all lab activities for training, assessment, and change management purposes align with the School's strategic goals and provides an optimal experience for internal and external clients. This role ensures that the necessary operational resources, such as space, equipment, and simulators, are in place to provide an optimal simulated educational experience for learners and faculty. The Assistant Director may supervise up to 8 lab staff, plus work-study students.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities related to teaching, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. In addition, the position minimums should satisfy any accreditation requirements in the specified area of instruction.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* Active, unencumbered RN license or eligibility for licensure in North Carolina.
* Master's degree in nursing, computer technology, education, or a related field.
* Minimum of two years' experience in nursing.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* Experience with project management practices and processes
* Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 suite
* Working knowledge of Learning Management System - Canvas
* Knowledge of data analytics processes and using data to make strategic, operational decisions
Special Physical/Mental Requirements
o Broad knowledge of clinical skills training, including using standardized patients and operations of low to mid-fidelity simulation technology in an academic healthcare education setting.
o Ability to interact and communicate professionally and effectively with various individuals, including but not limited to faculty, students, patients, standardized patients, and the public.
o Expert knowledge and experience in educational pedagogy and simulation technology in academic healthcare simulation settings.
o Ability to carry out responsibilities in a timely, meticulous, and professional manner, demonstrating initiative and creativity.
o Ability to work well under pressure, set priorities, and make critical decisions.
o Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes evening and weekend assignments to accommodate scheduled labs and events within EISLE.
Campus Security Authority Responsibilities

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
