Are you passionate about early childhood education and ready to make a lasting impact? St. Elizabeth's Child Development Center, a 5-Star Quality Rated Childcare Center, is seeking a Full-Time Assistant Teacher to join our caring and professional team!

About the Role: The Assistant Teacher plays a crucial role in supporting the educational and developmental needs of students. This position involves collaborating with lead teachers to create a nurturing and engaging learning environment that fosters student growth and well-being. This position will work with 1.5 - 2.5 year old children.

This position begins at our beloved Portland location, operating out of a charming historic building we've called home for decades.

In January 2026, our Portland center will close, and this position will transition to our brand-new, purpose-built facility in Cape Elizabeth, located at 8 Two Lights Road (on the campus of St. Bartholomew's Church). The new space will include:

  • Over 2,500 sq. ft. of indoor gross motor play space
  • Classrooms and outdoor playgrounds tailored to each age group
  • A bright, modern environment that reflects our commitment to child-centered learning

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist lead teachers in preparing and implementing lesson plans and educational activities.
  • Support classroom management by helping to maintain a positive and organized learning environment.
  • Provide individualized attention to students, addressing their unique learning needs and challenges.
  • Monitor student progress and behavior, providing feedback to lead teachers as necessary.
  • Engage with students in various activities, fostering their social and emotional development.

Pay Range: $17.50 - $19.00 per hour, depending on experience and education

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM

Qualifications:

  • Shall have a minimum of a Child Development Associate (CDA) or equivalent. A 2 year degree is preferred. Note: An option of actively participating in a CDA certification program exists, but prior approval by the Director is needed.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in the Early Childhood field
  • Must be willing to maintain CPR and First Aide Certification.
