The Clinical Simulation Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the preparation, maintenance, inventory, and operation of all simulation equipment and supplies, as well as collaborating with program faculty to design, plan, implement, and schedule simulation activities. The Clinical Simulation Coordinator ensures adherence to policies, course objectives, program outcomes, and current simulation best practices and safety measures This position will conduct technical aspects of the simulation and evaluate student performance.


Essential Functions

1. Maintain and uphold the College values of Learning, Excellence, Accountability, Diversity, Student Success, Teamwork, Integrity, and Respect. Regular attendance is required.
2. Complete all required College training and responsible for maintaining the skills necessary to complete the essential functions of the position as defined by the department.
3. Student Success if the cornerstone of Western's culture and the college may assign employees as needed to other areas or additional duties to foster this success.
4. Simulation Support and Safety - Supporting Action/Task May Include:

  • Coordinate the general operation and scheduling of the simulation laboratory
  • Maintain and repair all simulation equipment, including patient simulators, computers, monitors, and a variety of medical equipment
  • Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and contacts vendors, as needed
  • Provide technical support for task trainers and multimedia peripherals
  • Serve as lead in evaluating, ordering, and purchasing of simulation equipment, software, and supplies
  • Coordinate the collection of data for ongoing research or grant requirements
  • Maintain laboratory to meet regulation or accreditation standards
  • Coordinate training for all users of the simulation laboratory
  • Provide orientation and training to new simulation laboratory staff
  • Coordinate simulation laboratory tours
  • Monitor simulation laboratory budget
  • Build simulations based on department needs
5. Staff and Student Support - Supporting Action/Task May Include:
  • Program simulator software to model simulator's physiological response to instructor specifications.
  • Operate patient simulators and cameras for the duration of simulations.
  • Operate and maintain audio-visual and debriefing systems.
  • Set up and takes down simulation laboratory equipment
  • Provide theatrical production (costuming and moulage) for simulation scenarios, as requested.
  • Assume faculty educator role for simulation as content expert when necessary.
  • Act as primary contact for technical assistance, support, and training to faculty, instructors, and staff in use of simulation equipment.
  • Coordinate the set up and maintenance of computer-based training programs.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of curricula for all healthcare programs, including competency training.
  • Conduct debriefing or assist content expert with debriefing.
  • Create and implement educational programs for new simulation faculty

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare discipline OR
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., computer science, management information technology, film) combined with at least five (5) years as a nurse, EMT, Paramedic, or other allied health profession certification and training
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy and physiology
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in healthcare related field
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator-Advanced (CHSE-A) certification
  • Healthcare simulation experience, including maintenance, repair, and technical support of simulation equipment and/or medical devices systems
  • Knowledge and operation of standard audio-visual equipment (e.g., projectors, microphones, media players)
Required Certification/Licenses:
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) or commitment to obtain within three (3) years of hire date

This position reports to: Associate Dean - Health & Public Safety

Starting annual/hourly salary range based on education and experience: $58,325 - $77,703
