DESCRIPTION

Under supervision of the Senior Custodial Supervisor, the Lead Custodian assists in the scheduling, assigning and coordination of the work of one or more teams of Senior Custodians. Lead Custodians assist in determining duties; utilization of materials and equipment; development of work methods; and the ordering, issuing and/or storing of custodial materials and equipment. Prepares and maintains daily time and payroll records for Supervisor's approval.

Assists Custodians with labor entries in work management and payroll systems. Inspects assigned buildings and custodial work assignments to ensure that custodial standards are met and work is being done in a safe and efficient manner. Provides on-the-job training to employees in cleaning techniques, maintenance and use of equipment and cleaning supplies. Is responsible for daily distribution and collection of custodial keys to custodial staff. Completes emails, any required forms, attendance reports and supply orders using Customer Portal system. Reviews status reports such as daily activity logs to ensure smooth transition between shifts. Conducts quarterly supply inventories and orders supplies monthly. Writes, submits, or calls-in maintenance work orders.

Perform custodial duties per Facilities Management's (FM) Building Services' task and frequency schedule or during staff absences and vacations. Effectively communicates with staff and with internal and external customers. Responds to any requests for assistance, including emergency assistance, via radio, telephone or other communication regarding flood calls, spill containment and slip hazards. Provides urgent custodial assistance to Campus Police and/or other areas of Facilities Management as necessary. Instruct Senior Custodians in department's uniform standards and use of proper safety gear to ensure work practices comply with departmental expectations, safety rules and work methods.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • At least two years experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience performing professional cleaning or housekeeping duties in a large scale environment such as a University or Hospital setting.
  • Experience leading a team of custodians. Ability to effectively prioritize, meet deadlines, direct and coordinate a variety of custodial duties such as the cleaning of rooms, labs, floors and surfaces.
  • Experience using various computer systems and applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, database management, electronic mail, internet (Microsoft Office, Adobe, Outlook, etc.).
  • Ability to transfer information and figures into report format. Written and computer skills must be sufficient to complete basic forms, logs, reports and email correspondence.
  • Experience operating and providing training on the use of wet/dry vacuums, floor scrubbers, polishers, carpet cleaners and steam extractors to perform comprehensive floor care including: stripping, waxing and buffing hard and resilient floors as well as shampooing carpeted areas.Strong knowledge of safe use of cleaning solutions and supplies, including safe chemical use and mixture.
  • Experience using verbal communication skills to provide customer service and to respond to custodial and emergency requests.
  • Ability to safeguard keys issued for the securing of rooms and buildings in assigned areas.
  • Experience performing minor maintenance on custodial equipment and determining when building repairs and equipment replacement are necessary.
  • Ability to read, write, and perform basic math calculations.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally, in writing and electronically with internal and external customers from diverse backgrounds.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Supervisory experience preferably in a custodial enviroment.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • May be required to work alternate work hours and shifts.
  • May be required to work overtime.
  • Ability to bend, squat, stand, and walk for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $44,746 - $58,986 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $21.43 - $28.25

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
