The Los Angeles Times has an opening for a full-time, temporary photo editor to join our award-winning team of visual journalists. The editor's main focus will be to help generate, plan, select and publish compelling visual storytelling for our digital platforms and news print sections.

The successful candidate is someone who has excellent news and sports judgment, strong photo editing skills and can move with speed. The editor will work collaboratively with a news team that is constantly evolving and innovating to create fresh, high-impact visual journalism. They must have strong interpersonal skills and be able to inspire and educate others, push boundaries and take visuals to their highest potential.

Responsibilities:



  • Work on all aspects of day-to-day photography including handling photo requests, editing and publishing still images for both print and online
  • Monitor breaking news and planned events to create informative and compelling content
  • Collaborate with reporters, editors, photographers and freelancers to create visual story opportunities
  • Strengthen relationships with the photographers through regular contact and feedback
  • Create photo galleries for online platforms and support social media post that promotes the team's work



Requirements:



  • Minimum of six years of experience as a photo editor
  • Strong knowledge and interest in local, sports, national and world news
  • High level of professionalism at all times
  • Ability to work well under pressure and be able to make quick decisions and judgment calls
  • Excellent photo editing skills
  • Strong news instincts, excellent news judgment and communication skills
  • Ability to work well in a team setting
  • Expertise in technical skills including proficiency in Photoshop
  • Highly organized and able to work on simultaneous projects and/or tasks in a deadline-driven environment
  • Excellent communicator with people in and outside the newsroom
  • Extensively skilled at problem solving
  • Knowledge of journalism ethics and copyright issues



This temporary position is expected to last three months. We will consider candidates who would work remotely in other time zones as well as those who would work in El Segundo, Calif. Night and weekend work is expected.

The pay scale the Company reasonably expects to pay for this position at the time of the posting is $45.35 to $60.61 and takes into account a wide range of factors including but not limited to skill set, experience, training, licenses, certifications, and other business or organizational needs. Compensation will be determined based on the above factors along with the requirements of the position. At the L.A.
