Summary of Job Duties:This Research Technician position provides support to the laboratory of Kirk West, a basic science laboratory in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. The applicant will be responsible for performing standard molecular and cellular biology techniques. Preference will be given to applicants with knowledge of cell culture techniques and/or recombinant protein purification. Candidates will need to be highly organized, flexible, and motivated. Excellent communication skills and computer proficiency are required. This research technician position will focus on the role of Tousled-like kinases within the DNA damage response. The applicant for the lab position will be responsible for general laboratory maintenance and performing experiments as requested by the supervisor. The individual will interact with the principal investigator, faculty researchers, graduate students, and undergraduate students. Qualifications:

High School diploma/GED plus two (2) years of experience working in a research laboratory required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Be proficient in working with aseptic technique for cell culture and standard molecular biology techniques

  • Be willing to learn new skills and techniques.

  • Able to keep organized laboratory records and notes.

  • Able to use Microsoft Office.

  • Have good communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, molecular biology, or related field.

Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • Designs and performs research experiments (cell culture, confocal microscopy, PCR and cloning, CRISPR gene editing, recombinant protein production, in vitro kinase assays, co-affinity purifications, and Western blotting) and implements recommended alterations to those experiments as suggested by the supervisor.

  • Analyzes and assembles figures for publication.

  • Keeps descriptive and accurate records (both electronic and hardcopy) of all experiments and analyses performed.

  • Keeps track of used supplies and designated laboratory chores, which are rotated amongst laboratory members, such as autoclaving glassware, preparing common reagents, and organizing/stocking laboratory supplies in designated areas.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Salary Information:

$35,110/yr. | $16.88/hr.
