GENERAL SUMMARY

Shift: PRN, shift and hours will vary based on the needs of the department

Vascular Ultrasound Technologist , works under general supervision and performs vascular ultrasound diagnostic examinations. Obtains information for procedures such as patient anatomy and pathology. Ensures vascular ultrasound examinations are of acceptable quality and records results. Performs other related duties as requested by authorized personnel. Demonstrates knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to provide care to the age group(s) served. Responsibilities: 1. Reviews patient?s charts and physicians orders, establishes positive patient identification and questions patient to ascertain any pertinent information.| 2. Produces quality images by selecting the appropriate technical factors, equipment and transducer settings. Correctly positions patient and manipulates the various equipment components properly including computer keyboard manipulation.| 3. Explains procedure to patient.| 4. Observes and records images from the sound wave display screen. Detects pathologies and determines location and associated abnormalities. Determines if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes.| 5. Practices sterile technique as required when assisting the physician with invasive procedures.| 6. Provides a written impression to the Radiologist with the interpretation of the ultrasonic images.| 7. Ensures that equipment is properly maintained and notifies appropriate personnel of equipment problems.| 8. Knowledge and ability to use hospital and networking system computers.| 9. Keeps current with ultrasound procedures and equipment. | 10. Assists in the instruction and training of the radiology and ultrasound students.| 11. Performs other related duties as required by authorized personnel.| 12. Actively participates in radiation dosage monitoring program.| 13. Delivers quality patient care, including the use of universal precautions, ensuring patient confidentiality and practicing appropriate medical ethics.| Essential Functions:| 1. Must have ability to be mobile and use normal manual dexterity.| 2. Must be able to effectively communicate orally, written, by telephone; with staff, physicians and patients.| 3. Assist, move, transfer, support and lift patients.| 4. Ability to move standard ultrasound and radiological equipment.| 5. Ability to plan, follow directions and problem solve.| 6. Knowledge to learn to operate hospital, Radiology computer systems and digital Networking.| Working Conditions:| Subject to electrical and related energy hazards. Lifts, assist, support and transfer patients and supplies. Must have capability to stand a good portion of the work day. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:



  • Requires knowledge of anatomy and physiology at a level normally acquired through completion of two (2) years post-high school education in an allied health science such as nursing or radiologic technology, as well as knowledge of vascular ultrasound techniques and procedures. Requires familiarity with vascular ultrasound equipment as normally acquired through completion of a twelve month vascular ultrasound training program. - 1 to 2 years related experience is preferred. - Must posses guest relations and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, physicians, visitors and contacts external to the hospital. - Must be available for call after normal work hours.


CERTIFICATION/LICENCES REQUIRED:



  • BLS Provider specializing in Basic Life Support credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within 3 Months (90 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. -
  • One or more of the following: Cardiographic Tech specializing in Vascular Interpretation credentialed from the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. -Sonography Tech specializing in Vascular Sonography credentialed from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
