The Impact You Will Have:

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota is hiring a Senior Attorney to support employment law, vendor and other contracting needs, affiliate entity support, and special projects in Eagan, MN. In this role you will provide prospective and responsive legal advice toanticipateand guard against legal risks involving the company.You will understand how the company is regulated andadvisethe business accordingly. You will engage at a strategic level to help the company maximize the affordability of care within theappropriate legalconfines. You will keep apprised of new and existing case law, statutes, regulations, and regulatory guidance toproviderelevant advice toimpactedareas of the company.

The Senior Attorney must be able to support and advise on moderately to very complex issues facing the company, work largely independently and know when to seek guidance from legal leadership, communicate updates and escalate issues efficiently including at the officer level, seek support from legal leadership for such escalated issues, apply good judgment, appropriately prioritize tasks to focus on the key risks to the business, collaborate effectively on work involving multiple stakeholders, communicate legal advice both tactfully and persuasively, and apply expertise to identify and help solve legal problems.

Theideal candidate is a highly skilled and experienced employment law attorney who also has contracting and corporate expertise. This role is hybrid, 2 days a week in office, out of Eagan, MN.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Advise human resources and the organization on a broad array of employment law matters including performance management, nondiscrimination/harassment/ retaliation, employment policies, wage and hour laws, disability leave and accommodations, internal investigations, reorganizations, and immigration.

  • Prepare and review employment-related contracts and agreements.

  • Issue-spot and proactively advise on opportunities to improve employment-related practices.

  • Handle employee disputes and work with outside counsel to manage administrative complaints and lawsuits.

  • Draft, and/or review contracts, endorsements and agreements, restructuring where necessary to meet requirements.

  • Advise the organization on vendor management activities including contract negotiations, NDAs, templates and playbooks, and other legal matters related to procurement, and handle commercial disputes.

  • Advise the organization on the legal handling of business transactions such as investment, merger, joint venture, acquisition, divesture transactions, leases and contracts, including post-close integration.

  • Stay informed on legislative, regulatory, and case law updates and advise the organization on risks and opportunities.

  • Provide guidance on, assist in the development of, and help train the business on internal policies, procedures, and training programs to ensure legal and regulatory compliance.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Experiences:

  • Degree in law and admission to the state bar.

  • 5+ years of related professional experience. All relevant experience including work, education, transferable skills, and military experience will be considered.

  • High school diploma (or equivalency) and legal authorization to work in the U.S.

Preferred Skills and Experiences:

  • Strong collaboration skills with internal departments (e.g., Human Resources, Business Partnerships & Negotiations, Corporate Development).

  • Extensive knowledge of state and federal employment law, including supporting employees across multiple states.

  • Experience with administrative complaints and lawsuits.

  • Experience reviewing and interpreting legal decisions and proposed and existing statutes and regulations.

  • Experience drafting commercial contracts.

  • Excellent analytical, strategic thinking, organization, and communication skills.

Compensation and Benefits:

Pay Range: $132,300.00 - $178,600.00 - $224,900.00 Annual

Pay is based on several factors which vary based on position, including skills, ability, and knowledge the selected individual is bringing to the specific job.
