Texas Oncology is looking for a Lead Pharmacy/Admixture Technician to join our team! This position will support the Irving, Tx location.

This position will be a level 1or Sr depending on relevant candidate experience.

What does the Lead Pharmacy/Admixture Technician do? (including, but not limited to)

Under the minimum supervision of a physician or registered pharmacist working within a clinic admixture room or licensed pharmacy, the Lead Admixture Tech/Lead Pharmacy Tech oversees the operations and actions of Admixture/Pharmacy Technicians in all technical, non-judgmental aspects of medication preparation, distribution, record keeping, and inventory control. Assists in the implementation of departmental policies and procedures and in the development, implementation, and review of quality assurance and safety policies and procedures. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.


Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities (including, but not limited to)

  • Oversee the activities of other Admixture/Pharmacy Technicians and nursing staff in the preparation, admixture, dosage calculation, and verification of all medication orders.
  • Supervise documentation and dissemination of drug information, MSDS sheets, and related materials.
  • Ensure the correct storage and disposal of all medications.
  • Ensure the proper cleaning and maintenance of I.V. hoods and other equipment.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of departmental goals and objectives in consultation with the supervisor.
  • Monitor and inform pharmacy staff of new drug regulations.
  • Act as a resource on charging and billing procedures.
  • Under the direction of a licensed physician/pharmacist, assume responsibility for dispensing all medications at site clinic and act as a resource for all sites.
  • Assist in the implementation of drug control procedures for all sites of service and take corrective action as necessary.
  • Participate in the selection and training/orientation of departmental staff.
  • Maintain responsibility for hiring, termination, and performance review of staff.
  • Ensure proper training of all Admixture/Pharmacy Technicians and assist in the yearly clinical certification of all RNs to establish clinical knowledge and ability regarding admixture technique and protocols.
  • Supervise pharmacy inventory controls, assuring proper inventory levels, pricing, drug outages, recalls, etc.
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation, quality assurance, legal, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Act as an educational resource for Admixture/Pharmacy Technicians and other professional staff. Participate in pharmacy teaching and in-service programs.
  • Collect data, prepare reports, answer correspondence, and compile statistics for administrative, financial, and regulatory purposes.
  • Receive new drug education to remain abreast of new information and inform admixture/pharmacy and clinical staff.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information related to patients and medical and clinical staff.
  • Oversee the daily activities of Admixture/Pharmacy Technicians.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for the Lead Pharmacy/Admixture Technician will have the following background and experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certification from an accredited Pharmacy Technician school.
  • Minimum five years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician or one year oncology experience
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.

Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

Work Environment:

The work environment may include exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations and other conditions common to an oncology/hematology clinic environment. Work will involve in-person interaction with co-workers and management and/or clients. Work may require minimal travel by automobile to office sites.
