POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Director of Operations, Value-Based Care (VBC) will be a key member of Boston Medical Center's (BMC) VBC Leadership team. The Senior Director will have specific accountability for performance drivers across our multi-payer risk-based contract portfolio. The majority of Boston Medical Center's patients are currently covered by government and commercial risk-based contracts, including the Medicaid ACO program, the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP) and commercial payors, making successful performance in these contracts essential.

The VBC team will be accountable for designing and implementing a portfolio of programs for total cost of care management, ensuring quality measure performance, and addressing health inequities, among others. By building and leveraging strategic partnerships across operational and clinical leaders in primary care, specialty care, cross functional departments, the Population Health team, and in peer organizations, the Senior Director will identify opportunities and lead implementation work of VBC programs.

The Senior Director will use analytics to ensure program effectiveness. In addition to developing and implementing VBC programs, the Senior Director will oversee a team of VBC administrative and operational professionals that collectively support the maturation of the VBC program portfolio, transforming the offerings into the standards of care adopted across multiple care locations.

The Senior Director will collaborate in the overall VBC strategic planning process and be a key leader in defining priorities, developing programs, and setting long-term goals. Successful implementation of VBC work will require a clear strategy, thoughtful implementation planning, hiring and deployment of resources, and effective communication and stakeholder engagement, and the Senior Director will play a role in ensuring success across each of these dimensions.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

Specific duties and skills:



  • VBC Governance: As part of the with VBC Leadership team, collaborate to ensure engagement with VBC governance bodies to build BMC-wide alignment with VBC objectives; lead governance forums with direct oversight of VBC programs (e.g., Advisory Council) to ensure successful VBC program performance

  • VBC Program Development: In collaboration with clinical and administrative leaders across BMC and PHS, take leadership roles and accountability for specific priority areas and projects.

  • Strategic planning: Participate in overall strategic planning process for VBC performance; ensure that BMC's strategy is informed by best practices and innovations from external sources, as well as best practices and lessons learned from BMC experience and expertise

  • Business planning: Develop business plans for new VBC programs; develop strategies and implementation plans to bring existing department-specific or pilot-stage programs to scale across BMC

  • Talent management and development: Develop staffing/resourcing plan necessary to achieve VBC objectives; hire, train, manage staff that support selected VBC programs. Take accountability for developing future leaders.

  • Performance improvement: Continually monitor progress, innovate, and work towards programs and solutions that improve performance

  • Analytics and program measurement: In partnership with BMCHS Analytics team, measure and monitor progress and performance of VBC initiatives

  • Communications: Participate in developing and implementing a communications strategy to ensure that information flows across the organization and engage stakeholders across BMC through the VBC planning and implementation process

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's Degree of Arts or Science or equivalent work experience preferred

Master's Degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related fields strongly preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of 10 years of experience in a healthcare business environment with a minimum of 5 years management experience preferred. Experience in healthcare strategy or consulting is preferred. Experience managing an outpatient clinical setting is preferred.
