University Data and Institutional Reporting (UDIR) is a unit within Institutional Analysis (IA) having, among other duties, primary responsibility for authoritative institutional data, reporting, and analysis for the University of Minnesota system. UDIR's portfolio includes a wide range of data and reporting activities including the production of official data required for the University's compliance reporting efforts (e.g. IPEDS, NCAA, MN OHE, HLC), related reporting dashboards (e.g. https://idr.umn.edu), decision support for university leadership, ad hoc data requests, and ensuring the integrity of official institutional data.

This position was established in close partnership with the Office of Equity and Diversity (OED) and Institutional Analysis and reports to the Assistant Director of Institutional Data and Analytics in UDIR. This position is responsible for designing, building, and delivering data and reporting solutions for a variety of highly-complex, mission critical projects within UDIR and OED's portfolio, with a particular focus on climate and inclusion-related topics including but not limited to supporting federal, state, and other regulatory or compliance reporting / analyses, peer comparison studies, campus climate survey data analysis, summary reporting, and institutional decision support regarding the availability and use of equity and inclusion-related data.

Job Responsibilities:

Regulatory / Compliance-Related Data Projects (30%)

  • Serve as primary analyst or, in collaboration with the primary analyst, serve as the secondary analyst on critical reports and projection jobs regarding student and employee data reporting.
  • Assist in creating snapshots used to produce official University data, reporting, and statistics for student and employee subject areas such as IPEDS and other external federal, state, agency reporting.
  • Conduct analyses to support changes in federally and state-mandated reporting requirements, e.g., OMB race/ethnicity guidelines.
  • Engage with and support data exchange consortia in which the University participates.
  • Cross train with UDIR colleagues to effectively function as a primary or secondary analyst for student and employee-related critical reports, projects and production jobs

High Visibility Reports, Surveys, and Studies (30%)

  • Serve as primary analyst supporting equity and inclusion-related data projects, such as analysis of climate survey data and summary reporting.
  • Conduct studies of peer institutions and broader higher education landscape to develop reports summarizing key findings.
  • Prepare reports in response to legislative requests and University senior leadership.
  • Other selected high visibility reports, and surveys as assigned, such as SERU and gradSERU.

Ad Hoc Data Requests (30%)

  • Provide reports at the request of senior leaders of the University in a timely manner.
  • Provide accurate and timely reports to internal and external audiences.
  • Develop data and reporting solutions for ad hoc data requests that involve new metrics, are not well defined, or are considered advanced data requests.
  • Ongoing refinement of code/processes to improve efficiencies in ad hoc and cyclical data request processes.

Institutional Data Projects (10%)

  • Provide data context to inform institutional decisions around availability and use of equity and inclusion-related data.
  • Participate in cross-functional data projects that may include efforts such as Post-Graduation Survey / Post Collegiate Outcomes, Systemwide Strategic Plans, the Accountability report, and others as necessary.
  • Collaborate in advancing the operational and strategic direction of UDIR that may include support of the development and delivery of UDIR Tableau dashboards.
  • Prepares requirements documentation for complex systems, and data integrations to address advanced data and reporting needs.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications (please document on resume):

  • Bachelor's degree with at least 6 years experience.
  • Experience working in an academic environment, including but not limited to management of information systems, academic planning, policy analysis, program review, or institutional research.
  • Demonstrated experience in SQL and database management systems such as Oracle, MySQL / MariaDB, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, etc, or AWS/Azure equivalents.

Preferred Qualifications (please document on resume):

  • Advanced degree in a relevant field.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and across disciplines with administrators, faculty, staff, and students from a wide range of programs and backgrounds.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to synthesize and translate complex information when sharing findings or explaining data nuances to a variety of audiences.
  • Strong critical thinking skills, including demonstrated ability to approach problems objectively, draw conclusions, and develop recommendations.
  • Experience working with large enterprise data warehouses or business intelligence systems.
  • Experience developing and deploying data dashboards in Tableau or PowerBI.
  • Experience working with data governance functions and processes.
  • Experience working without supervision while managing multiple deadlines and priorities.
  • Familiarity with University of Minnesota data policies, processes, and operations.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: : $80,000 - $100,000; depending on education/qualifications/experience
