Job Summary:

This role is responsible for enhancing and maintaining robust technical data privacy and protection practices across NRG products, services, and business operations. The position supports, from a technical data perspective, the design, implementation, configuration, and scalability of the NRG enterprise privacy program. It involves cross-functional technical collaboration with Information Technology, Data Governance, Product Development, Cybersecurity, and Engineering teams. This is a technical, data-centric role relying on a technical background that could lead to a privacy engineer role. It is a unique opportunity that will allow you to interact with a diverse cross-section of our company. You will be expected to build upon our legacy of thoughtful and privacy-conscious innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create logic to implement customized Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) to identify gaps and recommend privacy-related improvements.
  • Develop and implement privacy-enhancing technologies and privacy-by-design solutions throughout the product/service lifecycle.
  • Work with OneTrust (or equivalent platforms) to operationalize privacy processes including data mapping, inventorying, and assessments.
  • Collaborate with product, engineering, and data science teams to integrate privacy controls into new and existing data streams and systems.
  • Analyze program software enhancements and configure and implement software to mitigate privacy risks and ensure data protection and usability.
  • Promote privacy implementation and data configuration best practices for customer, employee, partner, and vendor data handling.
  • Support internal and external privacy-related inquiries, investigations, and readiness activities.
  • Interface with Cybersecurity on records management, data retention/destruction, and incident response.
  • Guide the software and data development and integration/configuration of new privacy products and features, including anonymization, pseudonymization, and encryption technologies.
  • Perform ongoing privacy assessments, revising the logic on the customized questions in OneTrust or other solutions, and communicate risks, progress, and mitigation strategies to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with data and solution usability teams to ensure user-facing privacy controls are effective and accessible.

Qualifications:

Minimum:

  • 2+ years of experience in privacy, compliance, or related technical field.
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Data Science, Privacy Engineering.
  • Proficiency with OneTrust or similar privacy platforms.
  • Ability to implement and configure software privacy solutions.
  • Experience with data mapping, governance, and inventory practices.
  • Familiarity with privacy regulations, frameworks, and best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with both technical and compliance teams.
  • Self-motivated team player with the ability to lead independent initiatives.
  • Ability to manage ambiguity and balance risk in complex scenarios.
  • Working knowledge of software development, debugging, and testing procedures.
  • Proficiency in data protection techniques (e.g., anonymization, encryption).
  • Data literacy including data sourcing, cleansing, manipulation, and interpretation.
  • Capacity to perform operations on large datasets and develop data-driven solutions.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred:

  • IAPP CIPT certification or other privacy-related certifications (e.g., OneTrust certifications).
  • Legal analysis background or experience working with privacy laws and regulations.
  • Software development skills and familiarity with modern programming languages.
  • Experience in the energy or smart home sectors.
  • Familiarity with data science workflows, statistical methods, and large-scale data operations.
