We have a current opportunity for a Sr. Modeling and Simulation Engineer in Jacksonville, FL, Chantilly, VA, or Littleton, CO. In this role you will report to the Modeling and Simulation Principal Engineer and be part of a special applications group developing exquisite and cutting-edge missions.
Responsibilities


  • Collaborate with systems engineering on requirements development and V&V
  • Rapidly assess systems or approaches in support of Business Development and proposal writing
  • Leverage simulation to assess new design modalities in spaceflight
  • Demonstrate and evangelize for simulation-driven design
  • Validate simulation results and methodology with physical test
  • Responsible for building digital prototypes
  • Proactively interface with multi-disciplinary team members to optimize whole system designs that meet or exceed all technical, cost, and schedule requirements
  • Apply engineering principles to ensure that designed components and systems meet all requirements.
  • Generate technical documentation, reporting and presentations of design and analysis results.
  • Design, plan, and deliver within milestones leveraging industry-standard tools to deliver mission needs


Ideal Experience


  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Structural Engineering, Engineering Physics, or other related degree with 5 or more years of relevant experience
  • Ability to independently learn and adapt to new tools on a regular basis
  • Strong experience with industry-standard FEM tools like Abaqus, NASTRAN, or Ansys Mechanical
  • Familiarity with thermal and fluid dynamics tools like Thermal Desktop, Ansys Fluent, Siemens Star CCM+, or OpenFoam
  • Experience with diffuse flow/high-Kn simulation tools like NASA DAC, MONACO, or SPARTA
  • Experience with space mission analysis tools like Redwire ACORN, Ansys STK, NASA GMAT, or FreeFlyer

  • Competence in Matlab or Python and associated scientific libraries (NumPy, SciPy, Pandas etc)
  • Experience with convex optimization and machine learning to drive design characterization and multi-objective optimization
  • Ability to travel - an average of 10-15% travel may be required.
  • US Citizenship Required, with the ability to obtain a DOD security clearance.


Desired Skills


  • 10 or more years' experience in space industry, including developing, deploying, and unit testing simulation workflows and best practices
  • Systems/whole-picture thinking
  • Experience with COMSOL or PTC MathCAD
  • Experience with Ansys/Dynardo OptiSlang, iSight, or ModeFrontier
  • The ability to teach and train other engineers interested in Modelling and Sim
  • Self-motivated in applying engineering principles, concepts, and practices of mechanical / aerospace engineering to independently perform assignments.
  • Experience with aerospace standards such as GSFC-STD-7000A (GEVS), NASA 5000 series, MMPDS, etc.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office 365
  • Strong attention to detail with advanced verbal and written communication skills
  • Experienced with SolidWorks PDM and CAD
  • Ability to reference in Design for Manufacture (DFM) principles when making design recommendations
  • A growth mindset
