Job Summary

The Department of Housing and Community Development is looking to fill a Housing Support Specialist position. This position provides housing counseling for individuals or families in the County to locate housing resources and to assist those who are in need of additional, non-housing related resources. This position identifies and maintains a list of available housing resources and support opportunities; promotes housing assistance programs; creates and maintains community relationships with landlords, and property managers to identify housing opportunities; provides limited case management duties to individuals and families and serves as a resource for departmental staff who have clients seeking stable housing.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provides housing counseling to DHCD customers and clients to assist them with locating housing resources and social services.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with relevant County departments and County services providers that provide emergency housing resources.
  • Identifies and maintains a list of affordable housing opportunities. Conducts research and maintains listings.
  • Maintains a list of County general housing resources and marketing materials.
  • Provides front counter support as part of the administrative team during staff absences, lunch breaks or peak periods.
  • Acts as a liaison between DHCD case managers to assist in linking clients to housing opportunities.
  • Maintains records regarding outreach efforts, contacts, and housing opportunities.
  • May perform other essential job functions specific to the position.
Hiring salary is commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Housing, Public Administration, Social Work, Psychology, or related field; two (2) years of related work experience in a housing or public assistance area, including clients with mental health and/or substance abuse issues; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

This position requires a criminal, credit, and DMV background checks. Hold or be able to obtain Family Self-Sufficiency and Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Specialist Certification.
