Department Summary

The College of Nursing joins five other colleges and schools offering degree programs at HSC: the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, School of Biomedical Sciences, School of Public Health, School of Health Professions and College of Pharmacy. The College of Nursing will help address the shortage of nurses in Texas, which has the second-fewest nurses per capita in the U.S.

Position Overview

The Assistant Dean for Nursing Extended Campus at the UNTHSC College of Nursing provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, and academic support of the nursing programs offered at the UNT Dallas Campus, 7300 University Hills Blvd, Dallas, TX 75241. Administrative functions include, curriculum implementation, academic integrity, student success, budget and resource stewardship, developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, and alignment with the UNTHSC College of Nursing mission, vision, and strategic priorities. This role will also have a faculty appointment with up to 50% teaching responsibilities. The Assistant Dean for the UNT Dallas extended campus serves as a liaison between the Dean and extended site faculty, staff and students, and community stakeholders.

The Assistant Dean must possess excellent interpersonal skills including strong communication skills, and effectiveness in establishing consensus-driven decision-making processes. The Assistant Dean shall demonstrate strong professional integrity, a reputation for fairness and flexibility, a commitment to expanding the nursing profession, and alignment with the UNTHSC values and College of Nursing Mission and Vision.

Minimum Qualifications



  • Doctoral degree in Nursing (DNP or PhD) from an accredited institution.
  • Master's degree in Nursing and current, unencumbered Texas licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Minimum of 5 years of academic experience in nursing education.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team-building skills.
  • Experience with program development, academic operations, and faculty development.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • Ability to provide administrative leadership within the UNTHSC College of Nursing and ability to represent the interests of all constituencies on an equitable basis.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment.
  • Conflict resolution skills and a demonstrated record of excellent interpersonal and communications skills with students, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of budget process and fiscal management.
  • Proven track record of quality, integrity and trustworthiness.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Familiarity with accreditation standards (CCNE) and regulatory requirements (Texas Board of Nursing).
  • Engagement in professional organizations and community partnerships.
  • Administrative experience in academic nursing


Required License/Registration/Certifications

Job Duties:



  • Provide day-to-day administrative leadership for the UNT Dallas extended campus, including academic operations, faculty support, student services coordination, and campus engagement.
  • In collaboration with College of Nursing leadership, implement academic policies, curriculum, and strategic plans at the UNT Dallas extended site.
  • Oversee faculty recruitment, mentoring, performance evaluation, and professional development.
  • Ensure quality delivery of nursing curricula on the UNT Dallas extended campus, consistent with accreditation standards, regulatory requirements, and institutional goals in collaboration with the Senior Associate Dean, Associate Deans, Assistant Deans, and the program track coordinators.
  • Monitor UNT Dallas extended site program metrics including student performance, retention, progression, and satisfaction, and recommend improvements to the Dean as needed.
  • Support faculty in the use of innovative teaching methods, including simulation and technology-enhanced learning.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment that promotes student retention and success.
  • In collaboration with the Assistant Dean for Student Success, engage student services, advising, and academic support teams to address student concerns and needs.
  • Represent the UNTHSC College of Nursing at the UNT Dallas extended campus events, open houses, orientation, and graduation ceremonies, including after-hours activities.
  • Advocate for the UNTHSC College of Nursing and its programs in the local community and serve as a liaison with external partners.
  • Build and sustain partnerships with local healthcare organizations, clinical sites, and community stakeholders to support clinical placements, faculty practice, and workforce pipelines.
  • Coordinate with College of Nursing leadership and university departments and services to ensure adequate resources, facilities, and technology at the UNT Dallas extended campus.
  • Steward budgets and staffing in collaboration with the Dean's office.
  • Ensure compliance with university, state, and national regulatory standards and accreditation bodies (e.g., CCNE, Texas Board of Nursing, THECB, SACSCOC).
  • Other duties as assigned by the Dean.
