Southern Cancer Center is hiring a Patient Services Coordinator for our office at Springhill Hospital.
Position Summary
The Front Office Coordinator is responsible for professionally greeting and welcoming patients and their families, efficiently registering and scheduling appointments, and managing incoming calls. This role plays a key part in ensuring a positive patient experience and supporting clinical staff. The coordinator adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics, Business Standards, and Shared Values.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Patient Reception & Check-In
- Greet patients and visitors promptly, courteously, and professionally.
- Notify clinical staff of patient arrivals.
- Provide and explain required paperwork; collect and verify completed forms.
- Update patient demographics and insurance information in the system.
- Collect co-pays and balances; issue receipts.
Phone & Communication Management
- Answer, screen, and direct incoming calls to appropriate personnel.
- Respond to routine inquiries or take detailed messages.
- Page clinic personnel as needed and relay messages accurately and promptly.
Appointment Scheduling
- Check patients out after visits and schedule follow-up appointments per physician or office guidelines.
- Provide patients with appointment details, including time, location, directions, and instructions.
- Record cancellations and missed appointments; reschedule as needed and update patient charts accordingly.
Administrative Support
- File charts and forms; maintain a clean and organized lobby area.
- Ensure a sufficient supply of forms and office materials for daily operations.
- May assist with typing memos and forms as requested.
Compliance & Confidentiality
- Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, state, and federal regulations.
Other Duties
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by management.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous receptionist or office experience preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel required.
- Must complete required e-learning courses within 90 days of hire.

Work Environment
- Exposure to typical clinical conditions including communicable diseases, medical substances, and radiation.
- Frequent in-person interaction with patients, staff, and management.
- Occasional travel to other office sites may be required.
